🔧 PORTER CABLE PC1014 14-Piece Forstner Bit Set Review

I've seen some mixed ones but this set seemed the most solid product in its price range. Fortunately, I know I made the right choice. So far the bits have managed to transfer my abuse of drilling to both face and cross grinding without missing a beat. I think the bad reviews might be because people don't know these bits require slow speed. I've set the drill to the lowest speed (620 rpm) and haven't had any problems so far.

I don't know what these bad reviews are talking about. They cut pencil shavings out of everything I pierce which shows they are pretty sharp. I've only used them on a couple of projects so can't comment on how long they'll last, but I have a woodworking shop and once I feel like they've taken a decent beating I'll try to go back and check them out further. It's not like this. These are the highest quality Forstner beats you can get from a place like Rockler, but they definitely do what you want

I was very disappointed with this set when I received it. I'm really shocked that the drill bits dulled and I tried drilling through pine wood which should have been an easy job but took a lot of effort to get them through the material. Because of the price I give 5 stars. Of course there are better Forstner bits on the market, but they are significantly more expensive. These bits work great for drilling smooth holes. I think the real question is how many smooth holes can they cut. I can't answer that question right now, but I've used 1" and 1-1/8" many times with great results. I'm really impressed with these beats. I tried not to spend too much, but I also didn't want to buy junk. You have exceeded my expectations. I've used most sizes so far and drilled over 100 holes. So far no problems. The holes cut by these bits are smooth. If you don't go all the way through the workpiece it will form a hole with a small indentation in the center and a very small groove on the outside edges. This is a great collection of Forstner bits at a great price. They turn all right, there are almost no burrs from factory sharpening. If you're a perfectionist like me, you can use a stone to perfect your cut edges in seconds. Case quality could be a little better. One of the two latches doesn't hold very well, but that's not a problem for me. I am good with and store my tools and I can easily repair the lock when needed. As usual, I've studied many Forstner bit sets and had a hard time deciding on one. Some sets had fewer bits and a higher price, others had the same number of bits at a significantly lower price. I chose this set primarily because of the brand - a good decision on my part. The bits feel a little rough, but the cut surfaces are well finished. I even compared them to the ones sold in sets at my local stores and they turned out to be a better deal. These bits are NOT a FREE PATTERN or anything like that. I paid cash for these beats.
