thick metal for railings and battens

I had just painted my house and needed to replace the caps on the stair posts. The old ones were plastic with solar LEDs and I never liked the cheap plastic case. These are very nice hats. Good thick metal and shiny color. Although they were slightly wider than my posts, I was able to use the same screws and holes as the previous post caps and didn't need any glue.

Fiction. - Building Materials

They look great, are very durable and extremely easy to assemble. You never have to replace them. They won't rust, bend or be eaten by squirrels. As a great looking, long term mail cap, they are amazing. Now I've installed almost 40, replacing the flimsy aluminum sheets that lazy fence companies use, but I'll probably charge you as much as these. This is the right choice for an old or new fence.

High Quality Aluminum

I bought two of these fence post plugs to replace the original plastic plugs on my long fence that were loosened and installed in 2009. The end caps come with two screws that are easily installed through the pre-drilled holes on the side of the covers. Until those caps rusted and unscrewed. The price is a bit high but the quality is worth it. In addition, the cap fits perfectly on a 4x4 rack. I highly recommend.

Pros
  • Decking and Railing
Cons
  • Useless Features

Incorrect dimensions in the description

Below is the response I received from the company. These are NOT 3.5" x 3.5" caps. 3 and 5/8 inches is 3.625 inches, which is 1/8 inch over 3.50 inches (3 5/8 vs 3 1/2). They fit 3 1/2 rack (3.5") with an additional 1/8" to accommodate rack anomalies (imperfections). An eighth of an inch (1/8 inch) extra buffer per size equals 1/16 inch per defective side, just as designed. This makes them suitable for a 3.5" rack.

Too big for my poles

They are too big for 4x4 poles (actual dimensions 3.5"x3.5"). I will return them. Otherwise they appear to be of good quality. Also, in my application, one side of the top of the posts is tight against the railing so they're out of place anyway because they're very strong. Metal post caps (which you glue on) available at most hardware stores are thin enough on the sides to fit between the post and the batten. I'm sorry to return them because they look like nice hats.
