I wear these Bikram yoga shorts and they are perfect for the job! Also, as someone who wears 42" jeans, I can say that I can wear XL shorts just fine (which pleasantly surprised me!). Well cut, can withstand a lot and is very comfortable despite the tight fit. They also wash well, I've ordered them twice and they're often well below the manufacturer's suggested retail price, so I feel like I'm buying them at a bargain price.

These are the perfect yoga shorts. They're cozy but not too revealing. This allows the teacher to see which muscles are involved and the shorts are a good thickness.
