Peace of Mind: Safety

I have a very old 1980's microwave oven. Was here when we bought the house. I like it because it's huge, albeit not super powerful. This Detecto card gave me confidence that it is still very secure. I wrote to the company to confirm that it does indeed work to find any issues and they said yes and did a good job of explaining why.

Pros
  • Few competitors
Cons
  • Doubt

Sure, good luck with that

Showing erroneous blue all the time - reading 'too hot' after 2 different days, reading, re-reading and following directions, no other use of microwave and a try at a Neighbour House. The temperature at home is 72-75 degrees. Arrived intact, unopened, dark sensory square with a slightly visible happy face.

Pros
  • Excellent overall
Cons
  • Not sure

Microwave Leak Detector

Product was delivered on time, in perfect condition and as described. The only thing that worries me is that I can't tell if it really works. By that I mean that if you don't have any leaks, there are no alerts. Additional warning symbols are only displayed in the event of a leak. You can't put it in the microwave to see if the warning symbols appear because it will melt. Assuming it works, I have no leaks.

Pros
  • Free for educational purposes
Cons
  • Something else

Easy. Easy. I would like more detailed instructions.

how accurate is this? Looks like it's a color changing thermometer that gets hot from leaks. Is this a good way to check for a leak? The instructions are precise, so I can only hope that if I follow them, I'll get a representative result. Maybe I like too much technical detail, but I'd like instructions on how to determine what I'm doing wrong. The only technical detail in the instructions is "don't put it in the IR, it will melt." Not (figuratively) warm-fuzzy.

Pros
  • great product
Cons
  • expensive

only recognizes heat! for household sensors and alarms

I have used this product with 2 new microwave ovens and got readings in the "cautious" range. The sad face icon appeared every time I checked the front door next to the control panel. Finally, I took the warm plate out of the microwave and slowly slid the card across the surface, and the same "sad face" icon reappeared. According to online sources, all of these cards actually measure heat, not microwave leakage. If you have serious concerns about your appliance, invest in a real microwave…

Pros
  • Dope πŸ”₯
Cons
  • I have no dislikes for this, everything is fine
