Good tester, but you must place the tip on the stone to get a stable reading and multiple attempts may be required depending on the geometry and texture of the stone.

Doesn't seem to register really cheap diamonds. When I put it in my jewelry, nothing comes out at all. When I used it for famous diamonds, sometimes testing the same stone said "brilliant" and sometimes "moissanite". Not very helpful when reviewing unfamiliar jewelry and it sometimes gave me a moissanite value and others a diamond value.

This double diamond/moissanite tester is very accurate. I have found that most double testers under $200 do not accurately and consistently test moissanite stones under 0.25 carats. They will test them like diamonds. I tested dozens of small moissanite stones up to size 10 and they all turned out to be moissanite. The only downside I have with the tester is that it takes half a minute to warm up, the batteries don't last long. You really need to use an AC adapter (not included).
