Poor build quality: Accessories

I know you get what you pay for, but this thing is really cheap.1. The plastic cover does not hold.2. The LCD is partially dimmed (the decimal point is under the frame).3. The auto power off feature does not always work. I went out, came back 10 minutes later - it was still on. Sometimes it won't even let you turn it off manually.4. Accuracy was very inconsistent when I first tested the device, but after a few restarts it seemed to get better. I guess I'll keep using it until it breaks or gets…

looks accurate Easy to use.

Very easy to use and seems accurate. It comes with a weight of 5 grams and can be calibrated if necessary. It also came with three batteries (although the scale only holds two, so I don't know why they sent three). To further test the accuracy I put a copper penny on it and it showed a weight of 2.5 grams which is the "official" weight of the penny so I have to say the accuracy is good. The LCD panel is large and easy to read. I recommend it to anyone who wants to balance the turntable tonearm…

A piece of equipment you didn't know you needed for vinyl.

If you're reading this, you probably REALLY knew it, but I didn't really see the value of this device until I started researching it. The reality is that most manual tonearm dials are about as accurate as a hungover parent of a 2-year-old on a 7am eye test. While you might pay $$$$ for a kit, this inexpensive device is just as accurate and works great when you're not trying to impress your neighbors. The 1 star flaw is due to the battery installation and instructions, which require a polyglot…

Many brands of these gauges can be found online, many of which look the same. This Proster brand turntable pressure gauge is very good. I wanted something simple compared to my old technical caliber (e.g. a very precise and complex manual caliber). I checked the accuracy with my handheld meter - and it's very, very accurate. I am very happy with it. Comes with a weight of 5 grams, batteries and a nice case. So if you're looking for one of these pressure gauges and aren't sure which brand is…

Worth the price: Accessories

Seemingly identical to many others on the market (perhaps one manufacturer and many retailers), this scale is well suited for the purpose. I tested this on digital kitchen scales and old slides and they were accurate. This little trick allowed me to attach the VTF to my turntable - apparently my counterweight is offset by 0.15 ounces. When I unpacked it and put the batteries in, it didn't work at first. I took the batteries out and played around with setting up the contacts for the batteries…

$12.99 - the price of peace of mind

To be honest I thought the purchase would be overkill but I decided we'd play it safe. I changed the cartridge on my turntable and switched from Ortofon Red to Nagaoka MP-110. Never done this before and I was a little apprehensive about the process. Well, it was surprisingly very easy. I think that scale is indeed the price of peace of mind. I didn't want to put too much strain on my records and risk damaging them, and this scale confirmed I wouldn't. It just so happens that the weight shown on

Still easy to use and cheap

As I said in my first review, using this device is easy and smooth. I just put 2 batteries in the back (item 1) when I turned on the unit. Zero on the screen stabilized in a second (pg 2) and I placed a 5 gram weight on the scale table (pg 3) as instructed in the Calibration section instructions. The device read 5.01 grams. (p.4) Using the same instructions, I calibrated the scale to 5.00 grams. Then place the instrument on the platter's reference disc and gently lower the needle into the hole…

Neat and beautiful invention for phonophiles

I don't claim to be an audiophile but I have and listen to a lot of vinyl and I take care of my phono stage and want to know it's in tune properly. I have always been unhappy with the standard tonearm balancing procedure and bought this mini scale to see how close I came to getting it right. It's nice to actually be able to measure the balance. It turned out that my balance was a bit off. Not much, but now I know it's right. I'm a scientist and I have several calibrated balances in my home and…
