Much better than in stock

It's worth what I paid for it! I spotted the same live hub in MANY youtube videos so it must be pretty popular and reliable. Some of these guys are pros who have been learning Latin for years and they know it better than this newbie!

Pros

Great replacement for an old tool

I bought this to replace a tailstock on a Dewalt lathe that is over 60 years old. Works great, fits perfectly except for one problem. The end plate covering the inner bearings unscrews during use. I don't know if it was properly tightened at the factory or not, and I don't know what torque it should be, and I don't know the tool to tighten it properly. I smeared the threads with BLUE Loctite and tightened them as best I could. Hopefully this will prevent it from crashing again.

Short stem? the best marking tools

Either the shank is very short at that moving center or the tool access hole on my 2MT face is too far back, but I had to glue a 7/16" nut right down the middle. the end of the rod (shown in the photo) so that it enters the hole in the slot so you can detach the device from the socket (if your socket/bracket has both ends open just touch the dowel from the socket) . the rear one works perfectly!) The device itself seems to be very well made. Although I haven't used the live center in the…

Not for turning metal, but for wood!

This is a decent live performance center, especially considering it costs less than $20. runout was less than 0.001, bearings were smooth and fairly quiet. The metal that makes up this live tip is too soft for metal turning. Do not buy this if you are going to use it on a metal lathe. My mid was practically destroyed the first time I used it with stainless steel. Now it's used for rough woodwork because I can't get it back. This would be nice for woodworking that requires a live center, but…

Falls apart during use. Do not buy!

Bearing holder came loose I screwed it back on and it falls apart every time I use it. Bad design, I would not recommend to anyone. I have not contacted PSI yet but will do so. Just thought I would share my experience with this tailstock. Frustrated that people were giving it good reviews, I noticed one person had the same issue and cut it again. I have recut the backing board 20 times and it gets lost every time I use it. I can't return it as I bought it a while ago and haven't used it for a…

The bearing cap unscrews itself every time I use it

I don't think it will last very long because I have found that the bearing cap unscrews itself every time , when I use this thing, dust jumps and chips got into the bearings. I had to use a thread lock to stop this. Poor design allows the dust to create enough friction that the spin center spins slightly faster than the bearing cap, which can cause it to come loose—no matter how hard you tighten it. eventually, which is a shameful waste. I'll do everything in my power to prolong its use, but it
