Type of review

SenseHat does what it does - it measures temperature, pressure and humidity, plus it has a cool LED matrix that you can program for just about anything you can think of. directly above the RPi's CPU, so the temperature reading is significantly distorted by the heat radiated from the CPU.

it has good gauges, it's pretty expensive, but it's a Cadillac.

The thing is cute, it has good sensors, the price is quite high, but these are Cadillac from Pi accessories, so I'm a guest, that's what it is. However, the environmental sensors are problematic at best. The temperature sensor got stuck after polling resumed and only a reboot fixed it. Other sensors also generate unrealistic vibrations. A clearly inaccurate representation of the real environment. Find out. I like the matrix the best - it's cute and decorative :)

Pros
  • Test for one year
Cons
  • The packaging is ugly

Fun Letter Scroll - Computers and Accessories

I haven't put it to the final test yet. But scrolling through email is fun. The temp sensor may need to be adjusted or something else as it will draw heat from the R-Pi itself when flush mounted. I haven't had very good results with the compass-like heading sensor, but that could be because I didn't calibrate properly. However, I think getting these things right can be half the fun. And these sensors really capture the imagination. Imagine turning this on in your car and saving a record. It…

Really useful technology

A really useful thing. I'm new to the Raspberry Pi operating system and Linux. I like SenseHat not only for what it does, but also because I can test different programming methods and see results immediately. For example, Sensehat shows the temperature in degrees Celsius, but I wanted to see degrees Fahrenheit. So when I printed out "t" I added ((t*(9/5))+32) and it worked. I wish I had had a Pi and a SenseHat as a kid. I think every kid in the US should have a Pi and a SenseHat. It's not just…

Sense Hut for Raspberry Pi Projects

I've wanted one for a long time to try out a few projects for my Raspberry Pi, but held off until I was ready to learn Python. My daughter is taking a programming course at school and she uses it regularly and she asked me if I have one or if I could get one so she can work on her projects at home. lol that's all i needed to hear to find an excuse to finally get it. I played around with it and was able to make a small animated image dance on its small screen and watch my daughter work with it…

Fun encoder for all ages

This hat will bring lots of fun and learning to any age! From simple drag-and-drop scratch programming to fun Python code, there are plenty of projects to keep you busy! I bought it for my own amusement and also to show the students how to start using sensors and program the automation based on the data returned. I'd say my only "complaint" (if you can call it that) would be when mounting it directly to the Pi, it's too close to accurately measure ambient temperature. I'd almost like to 3D…

Good idea, but lame execution.

Cool LEDs. They work great. Just don't stare at them for too long, they're incredibly bright. The joystick works great too. After calibration, the orientation sensors also work well. However, there is a design flaw. Various sensors sit just above the giant heat source: the Raspberry Pi itself. Because of this, if you actually install it on a Raspberry Pi, you'll never get accurate ambient readings. You only get the Pi Sense temperature heated by the CPU. A hacky way is to use a 40-pin IDE…

  • Not sure

Pretty fun on computers and accessories

Accelerometer accuracy is terrible. This is probably true of any IMU, but it's something to know before you buy. It doesn't have much support if you really want to mess around with the IMU. They basically have to learn C++ or something and decode the manual for the actual component they're building into the HAT. It's a lot of fun to play with, but there are some frustrating aspects of using location data and you can end up down a giant rabbit hole. I don't think it's sampling fast enough, but…

It is a microcomputer that has many uses.

Couldn't help but give five stars for thickness, warmth and transparency. This is an absolutely amazing little computer. If you are a hacker. (hacker in the old sense). This little thing was designed to be cheap enough to put in the hands of any student. An amazing entry level computer for everyone. What's more, it's so cheap that you can buy one, put it into a project like a weather station or whatever, and then buy another for something else. Its main feature is GPIO. General purpose I/O…

Pros
  • High marks for grip and durability from testers
Cons
  • Not as thick as other options
