Description of πŸ“‘ Raspberry Pi NB-IoT Cat-M (eMTC) GNSS HAT with LTE GPS External Antenna, SIM7080G, for Pi 4 3 2 Model B B+ Zero W WH, USB Interface UART. Supports GLONASS, BeiDou, Galileo. By XYGStudy

Part Number: SIM7080G Cat-M/NB-IoT HAT (EN). NB-IoT/Cat-M(eMTC)/GNSS HAT for Raspberry Pi, Based on SIM7080G, Globally Applicable, Standard Raspberry Pi 40PIN GPIO extension header, supports Raspberry Pi series boards, Supports communication protocols such as TCP/UDP/HTTP/HTTPS/TLS/DTLS/PING/LWM2M/COAP/MQTT, Supports GNSS positioning (GPS, GLONASS, BeiDou, and Galileo). This is a telecommunication HAT which features multi communication functionalities: NB-IoT (NarrowBand-Internet of Things), Cat-M (aka eMTC, enhanced Machine Type Communication), and GNSS (Global Navigation Satellite System). With the developing of telecommunication technology LTE, 2G/3G networks are fading away, the future world would be dominated by IoT technologies consisting of low bandwidth NB-IoT/Cat-M and high bandwidth 4G/5G standards. This HAT supports global bands of NB-IoT and Cat-M, as well as positioning function. Due to its advantages like small size, low delay, and wide coverage, it is the ideal choice for IoT applications such as intelligent instruments, asset tracking, remote monitoring, e-health, and so on.

Works with Arduino UNO

I was able to connect it to Arduino UNO and answer incoming calls. Please note that the Arduino requires a special library and the connection must be made with a pair of jumpers.

Pros
  • Computer and accessories
Cons
  • May damage

Worked fine for 4 months and died.

I have used this unit for about 4 months sitting with occasional use on a stable power supply. Unfortunately it suddenly doesn't seem to work anymore and doesn't show up in dmesg or /dev/ anymore.

Pros
  • Computer Components
Cons
  • Weight

Works very well Works well in weak signal locations.

I am using this to allow my house to text me for certain events. I don't use the data portion, I'm only planning on spending $5 a month to send text messages. With an additional antenna for outdoor mounting, it was reliable. The included antenna was fine too, but while I was in my garage messages were sometimes delayed as the radio reestablished contact.

Pros
  • This is a telecom HAT that supports multiple communication functions: NB-IoT (Narrow Band Internet of Things), Cat-M (aka eMTC, Advanced Machine Type Communication) and GNSS (Global Navigation Satellite System).
Cons
  • Minor issues

Good price, works but incomplete documentation bothers

I like small size, good performance and good antennas. I spent extra time getting the GPS to work while the cellular data was active, and after the GPS turned on, the cellular data stopped working. What the documentation doesn't say: You can't use the typical gps on command and the nmea search command. Instead, use the command AT+SGNSCMD=1.0 and wait for a GPS frame. See the simcom help manual for more information. You can get them from waveshare (dot com).

Pros
  • This HAT supports NB-IoT and Cat-M global ranges and positioning capabilities. With its advantages of small size, low latency and wide coverage, it is an ideal choice for IoT applications such as smart tools, asset tracking, remote monitoring, e-health, etc.
Cons
  • Repair

Pros
  • NB-IoT/Cat-M(eMTC)/GNSS HAT for Raspberry Pi, based on SIM7080G, can be used worldwide, standard Raspberry Pi 40PIN GPIO expansion connector, supports Raspberry Pi serial cards, supports communication protocols such as TCP/UDP/ HTTP/HTTPS/TLS/DTLS/PING/LWM2M/COAP/MQTT, supports GNSS positioning (GPS, GLONASS, BeiDou and Galileo)
Cons
  • Not as thick as other options
