Works with Topo NA 10.0

Great price. Robust construction. I love the magnetic mount. Connects and catches satellites very quickly. This works best with a Delorme Topo NA 10.0 (which I bought from another big post office because it's not here. Everything is nice again.

Pros
  • Good product for the price
Cons
  • Security

Has stopped working

Worked about three months or so, sporadically I might add. I had accessed a python software but the connection was never reliable. I just quit now. I tried to install it on another computer via u-center install but it says the device is faulty. IMHO, not very reliable hardware.

Pros
  • Stable test results
Cons
  • Long delivery time

Install the software first

I can't put the link in the description but google the GPS software. On a Windows 10 PC, I can see the device and use several programs to get the location and time from the device. For those using this in astronomy situations there is a red LED which I had to paint over to dim a bit as it was quite bright. Small and light.

Pros
  • Great for me
Cons
  • Crumpled

Works well after setup.

I plug it into the USB port on my laptop and Windows 10 says it's setting up but when it's done it doesn't work. I downloaded Ublox UCenter, google it. And then it works perfectly, I changed it to 9600 baud to match the software I use, OpenCPN, a nautical chart software. OpenCPN is free, as are maps, so you can basically turn a laptop into an accurate GPS chartplotter for $20, the price of a GPS receiver. Works great, strong signal.

Pros
  • Chic design
Cons
  • Doubtful purchase for the elderly

Doesn't work well with Windows 10

Bought for interacting with navigation maps it's supposed to do but it doesn't work, can't figure out if it's because of the map software or the GPS software. However the GPS is not plug and play with Windows 10, it took four hours to try every suggestion on different websites none of which were completely correct and finally it worked giving latitude and longitude etc. Crazy, it's only available in degrees and decimals, not degrees and minutes, making it pretty impractical for sea navigation.

Pros
  • Audio and video accessories
Cons
  • Some little things

Before you even plug it in, figure out what you want to do.

In general, I like the product. For the most part it does everything I wanted I think. I really wish google maps could track my gps location. Not sure if that works. In Google Earth it is. When you plug it in for the first time, it looks like a virtual COM port. At this point it will work for most things. If you download a USB driver for it, it will configure itself as a USB device and remove the serial COM port, breaking most applications like navigation software and Google Earth that still…

Pros
  • Radio antennas
Cons
  • Packaging is ugly

I'm looking for someone with a computer science degree

I wanted to install a U-Blox 7 GPS sensor, use Open CPN as navigation software and set sail. Well, not this year. It seems that the GPS "sensor" is not compatible with Windows 10 without loading the VCP (Virtual Communication Port). On the U-Blox website they offer a VCP with an .EXE extension, but when it's downloaded it's not an exe file, it's something called (file 10) . I think you get the picture. That's just not me, the internet is full of blogs from people facing the same problems. Open…

Pros
  • Antennas
Cons
  • Some errors
