🚚 Reese Towpower 8508211 Proportional BRAKE-EVN Brake Control: Superior Trailer Braking Efficiency Review

I drive trailers all the time. Transporting mini loaders, dump trucks, mini excavators, etc. for 1 ton with factory controls. This is a fantastic little brake control that I put on a 1/2 ton for towing a boat and it works great. Get the right pigtail and installation takes less than 15 minutes. Update: I towed a 45 foot camper from OK to Pennsylvania in a 1/2 ton Chevy using this controller. This is the best brake control.

This controller seems to work well for my single axle trailer. I took off a star because it doesn't include a universal braid. The documentation went back and forth as to whether this was included. Even the Revain questions section had mixed responses. One section of the manual mentions using the included universal pigtail and another section lists the parts included but doesn't mention the pigtail. Installed it on my 2009 Honda Pilot in less than 30 minutes. The hardest part was finding a good spot under the dash where I wouldn't bang my knee on it. Keep in mind that this is NOT a device that can be mounted in any direction, but it does have a fairly wide mounting width. It's also small enough to fit in many places. Easy to install, however the instructions require horizontal installation and the mounting bracket does not allow horizontal alignment. To maintain the installation level (left to right), you will need to level the mount if the surface you are installing it on is not level. Up/down orientation is not a problem as the bracket allows for a fairly wide range of installation angles and the mounting bracket allows for good adjustment in that direction. The installation took about 30 minutes, and that without a factory adapter. I have a towing package so the factory wiring was there but no adapter for the controller. Fits perfectly in the niche on the left side of the dashboard. I used a screwdriver (or other prying device) and pulled out the drawer/trim light switch. I loosened 4 small screws holding the cab to the skin. I cut a hole in the back of the cabinet and ran through the brake controller wiring harness. I bought this controller to help brake my trailer. The installation on my Tacoma 2010 was plug and play - literally. However, you will need to purchase a wire harness to connect the controller to the pre-wired connection. I used a Tekonsha 3040-P Brake Controller Wiring Adapter for Toyota with this controller and it worked flawlessly. Bought because I rented a caravan and the owner needed it. I have a 2019 Jeep Grand Cherokee that has a trailer brake control connector installed from the factory. Most factory couplers are male, so I strongly recommend NOT using aftermarket couplers. If you pay for the trailer control connector, oil cooler, transmission cooler and 7-pin electronic connector, you'd better buy a factory towing package. Sorry to digress here!
