Great alternative to punching

In combination with Sikaflex 221 an unbeatable combination. When I first installed solar panels on the roof of a van, I used regular steel brackets and screws. Big mistake. The screws couldn't find a hold as RV roofs are made only of sunlight. And of course, every time you drill a hole you create a potential leak point, which requires careful sealing and constant maintenance. With these brackets you have enough space for a really good hold on the roof. Use a bunch of Sikaflex and you're done. I

The holes in my roof are not drilled.

I buy it for the second time. I try to drill and use self tapping screws to loosely screw them to the solar panels at the ends to allow the brackets to tilt to follow the contour of the RV's roof. I then use 3M VHB tape on the underside of the brackets and place the panels and side brackets in place. I then unscrew and remove the panels, leaving the brackets in place. I then seal with Sikaflex 252 all around and a little above the flat parts. Then I placed the panels on the brackets. Then I…

A solid no-drill assembly solution with the right adhesives and preparation

Installed a 175 watt solar panel on the roof of my camper van. The roof was flat in length but curved in width. To overcome the bend I first attached the brackets to the roof and then installed the solar panel. If the roof is curved the panel will not sit completely flat on the brackets but that is not a problem, simply apply foam tape to the top of the brackets underneath the panel and use the self tapping screws to secure them to the sides of the panel. This also makes it easier to remove the

OSB/Rubber roof assembly

First I read the assembly instructions here. Then, even though I found my van's roof to be fairly flat, I still couldn't use the two center support pieces for my 100-watt panel because the panel wobbled slightly when they were in place. I temporarily installed the corner anchors and panel and used a marker to mark the corner locations. I then used a razor blade to cut through the roof's rubber material to expose the OSB. I liberally applied Sikaflex 252 to the corner supports and glued them to…

Surface preparation is key

I've done a lot of research and this product supports the claim that you can install solar panels without holes. I am satisfied with the product, it is durable and well made. It looks like it has enough surface area for the glue. I will add that they are hollow and would have a better grip if they weren't. The instructions seem to be wrong. So in my research I found out that 3m VHB tape 1# was install without drilling. So I used 3m VHB 4950 tape, Sikaflex and Eterna Bond tape to hold it. Also…
