Use the gloves when turning from the packaging. The manufacturer has a printed note on this. My hands aren't skinny and I could tell that spinning without gloves would probably cut. But I just had to turn it around. So, mount it on a piece of wood, stand on it and turn it around. Kids are going to have a hard time breaking THIS turntable - MADE IN THE USA - RIGHT!

Matches my bar stools perfectly. As many people have posted, both blocks I received were tight and VERY difficult to turn by hand to install. Once installed in the chairs, the seats are still rigid and cannot be easily rotated by hand. When sitting, they rotate quite normally, because a sufficient number of muscles are involved in the movement of our body. I don't know if they will relax. It's been two months and they haven't changed.

My husband was so happy to find this item to refurbish a very old bar stool. He found one at the local "big store" but it seemed very weak and he refused to even try it. Exact replacement for the swivel chair that came with my La-Z-Boy chair (different manufacturer but same size and design). Removed the old one, vacuumed the underside of the chair and installed the new one in 20 minutes. It's hard to turn, but I used a screwdriver to turn it 1/8th to access the screw slots to install it. Perfect replacement for my Lazboy swivel chair/lounger. The only difficulty was rotating the top plate so I could access the screws to screw it to the base (as mentioned the bearing is tight, especially on the first turn).
