I should not have annealed a piece of steel advertised as annealed.

2 sides of the steel appear to have been cut with a plasma cutter or other method that reinforces the edge on 2 sides. Both sides need to be annealed to make them usable. I should not have annealed a piece of steel advertised as annealed.

Pros
  • Durable finish
Cons
  • Doubtful

The best value I have seen for an online source is

The best value I have seen for an online source is Well Tempered. That's a huge amount of steel! For those who don't know what annealed means not hardened, it's soft! So far I've been able to make 4 fairly large knives out of it and I haven't even gone halfway through the blank yet. However, they really could contain the specification.

Pros
  • Quality Build
Cons
  • Disappear

As described, I will buy again

This is a large piece of steel. It's thicker than I prefer for making knives, but the price was right so I made a few meaty ones! While I can't say for sure it's 1095, it tempers fairly well, heats at home with no problems, and makes some nice blades. In the future I would probably choose 1/8, but making fat knives is fun.

Pros
  • Easy installation
Cons
  • Minor problems

Solid steel when you need it in a pinch

Nice flat sheet steel. The size was a little difficult to manage until I bought an angle grinder, but it was the only option that would arrive soon enough (it had first class shipping). and there is some steel left that I will use later. Although the knife was a beginner, the knives set up well in warm peanut butter (faster oils like Canola or Park 50 supposedly work better, by the way). Judging by the sensations when sharpening, the large one turned out to be about 60 hours, and the smallโ€ฆ

Pros
  • Excellent overall performance
Cons
  • Not the best
