An additional 7.5dB boost reduces packet loss and frame loss, which are exacerbated by winter weather that degrades the signal strength of the source (set-top box and WiFi modem). A 2.5dB Active Return Gain (-AR-) boost improved response time to wired remote commands (a stronger outgoing command signal did not have to be repeated as many times before it was accepted). The WiFi speed test shows significantly improved and consistent "acceptable"** up/down speeds. [**"Acceptable" Internet is…

Weak Signal Comcast Xfinity HD TV

Don't be confused Comcast provides good high speed internet and HD TV service. But since I live in an apartment building, I've had some complaints about the Comcast signal skipping when renters download files from the Internet and watch certain channels (Bravo TV, TNT, A&E, and Discovery) at the same time. So I bought a few of these hoping to solve the constant maintenance problem. I suppose I could tell them to "grind" it since it's technically a Comcast issue, but that's not how I work. I…

I tried moving the boxes to other rooms but to no avail so I bought an Arris Drop amp. I chose Arris based on size and reviews, I was not disappointed. I removed the 4-way splitter, put the Arris in place, and connected the power to the house. I put the Arris in a weatherproof PVC box outside…

    Solving Cable Modem Problems

I have xfinity cable internet in an old building where the cabling may not be optimal. I installed an Arris BDA-42-4-AR-R to replace a passive cable splitter between a Tivo XL4 and an Arris SB6141 cable modem. I went from daily modem shutdowns and reboots to a week's uptime. Used to get T4 errors in modem logs that cause the modem to lose connection and reboot. Now there is only an occasional recoverable T3 error. This is important because I need reliable internet to work from home. I…
