Schumacher FR01242 Automatic Battery Maintainer Review

This Schumacher Charger is perfect for a quick hook up to our lawn mower, Miller welder and a couple of our vintage ATVs. Yes, it has an adorable headlamp if you connect the cables wrong, but you just don't. Black on black and red on red. I usually plug in the charger and then plug it in. I'm not sure what's right, but I don't get those pesky sparks that way. Schumacher is a traditional and respected quality brand. This charger is perfect for our small ranch.

We have this charger to charge our feeder batteries while we hire reindeer and I have to say it's perfect for that purpose! were a little confused as to whether our batteries were stock or AGM batteries). I feel misled by this ad as it seemed to claim it was a car charger but when it arrived it said it was for a ranch or farm equipment. The clamps are too small to charge a car battery. This is obviously for charging batteries on smaller devices. Unfortunately I don't have a ranch or farming equipment to test this. It's made of durable hard plastic and is small enough to carry around. It is light but not suitable for our purpose. The wrong manual annoys me, but you can use it on your hardware.

This is a great tool to have around the home. It has some neat things built in to charge and recharge the battery. In the old style, they had switches that you had to adjust for the amperage of the battery. It has a built in microprocessor to read the battery charge and adjust accordingly. Although the front of the charger states that it is suitable for use on farms and ranches, I have had no problem using it with regular car batteries. Yes, it also works with a lawn mower battery, fully charges it and then transfers it to trickle charge, just like car batteries. Maybe you just want more than one of these so you can charge each of your batteries. This charger is relatively small and very light. The first few times I tried to charge my modern car battery, the charger gave an error with a reverse polarity indicator. The manual wasn't that helpful except to suggest that the machine might still be drawing power.
