A bit pricey, but worth it for your pups needs!

I have been a longtime user of Royal Canin brand for our Yorkie. Having had several aging pets, I know that their dietary needs change as they get older. Typically, these changes begin around age 8, but it's not an exact science.Royal Canin has adjusted the ingredients to be easier on the again pups digestive system and other internal organs.Although we do have a Yorkie, I would think this would be fine for any small breed dog. The dog seems to really like it and actually has a small handful…

Pros
  • We love this dog food, but I wish it had more veggies in it like sweet potatoes.
Cons
  • Contains fillers that may cause stomach upsets in some dogs

Where's the Meat? in my review

I'm not thrilled with the ingredients in this dry dog food. Aging Yorkies require meat too. Maybe the lack of meat is suppose to help maintain kidney health, I don't know. The first five ingredients are brown rice, brewer's rice, wheat gluten, chicken fat, corn gluten meal then chicken by product meal (feet, guts, etc.) That doesn't look like something I want to feed my dog. And a 10 pound bag of this stuff costs $46.00. I would rather take that money and buy ingredients at the grocery store…

Pros
  • My yorkie loves this.food.
Cons
  • May contain too many carbohydrates, leading to weight gain in some senior dogs

My Yorkie approves so far

My Yorkie is almost 9 and the only dry food she will eat is Royal Canin. She has been eating a different RC formula for the past two years that isn't a senior food and is pretty high in fat. I figured it was time to put her on something that would provide healthy aging support and prevent weight gain. So far, she will eat this food dry (with a freeze-dried topper, of course) and rehydrated. That's a big win since she's VERY picky and I've tried other RC formulas that she's rejected. It also…

Pros
  • Good Food for dogs.
Cons
  • The bag packaging may make it difficult to store the dog food

Designed for Yorkies? - 😢

We currently have 2 aging Yorkies; Spike is 15 years old and Toby is 14 years old. So when I seen this Royal Canin Breed Health Nutrition Yorkshire Terrier 8+ Dry Dog Food offered, I jumped at the chance to try it. We currently use another very popular brand dog food designed for small breed dogs with small mouths. That kibble is about 5 - 6 mm in size. Both our Yorkies have had their share of teeth problems having but a few teeth left. I tried looking for the size of the kibble in this Royal…

Pros
  • A mi perro Yorkie le gusta el sabor y la frescura del producto.
Cons
  • Contains gluten which can be harmful to dogs with gluten intolerance

Little Sparky yaps approvingly

We used to be Hills fans but there have been so many recent reformulations that typically are removing the natural fats, and evidently the flavor along with it. This Yorkie formula is suitable for any small and mature dog. Animal fats stimulate appetite the most and this formula features 27% needed protein.(By the way 0 out of 100 vets say that if your pup can grow a mustache, you may consider it mature.)

Pros
  • My Girl Juicy Loves It
Cons
  • Some dogs may experience diarrhea or vomiting after consuming this dog food

Dogs love it. on my review.

I like the idea of breed specific food as certain purebreds are prone to specific issues. It makes since to target those issues nutritionally, hopefully before they even become issues. I have 2 yorkshire terriers, parents known plus DNA tested to be 100% yorkshire terrier but they are not the tiny variety as pictured on the bag. Their weight is not even listed on the bag in regards to how much to feed them (goes up to 9 lbs). So the issues it targets with nutrition may be things smaller…

Pros
  • Shipped quick
Cons
  • Contains vegetable oil which may cause skin allergies in some dogs

Good choice - my new review

Royal Canin for Yorkshire dogs

Mandatory disclosure: I received this dog food at no charge to me as part of Revain Vine program. It is a big bag, 10lb is no joke, will last long time hopefully. We are Royal Canin customers for a long-long time. Their Yorkshire Terrier Dry Dog Food gives some yellowish/orange color to the hair, which makes it beautiful. Plus the dogs love it. I highly recommend this food for yorkies.

Pros
  • Product received on time, and perfect. Thank you.
Cons
  • The dog food may spoil easily if not stored properly

My furbabies like this food

Both of my dogs are small and have the joints and bones that could cause them issues in the future. I have been giving then Canin. It has a lot of joint health benefit and aging benefit for the Yorkshire Terrier. Small dogs need different food as they age. Now, I would prefer any dry kibble to start with meat, but this one starts with rice. It has the by product meats in it and that is another thing I would like changed. But the dogs are the ones eating this, not me.

Pros
  • Royal Canin Yorkshire Terrier Adult 8+ is designed to meet the specific needs of, and support healthy aging in, senior purebred Yorkshire Terriers 8 years and older
Cons
  • May not be suitable for dogs with diabetes due to high carbohydrate content

Meant for Yorkies, but what about others?

Our two Mini Schnauzers had the opportunity to try out this new RK Dry Dog food, also known as kibble. This one is tailor-made for adult Yorkshire Terriers who are much smaller than our two elderly pups, but food is food, and they absolutely loved it The kibble is small , like little square dots with the size somewhere between 1/8" to 1/4". The ingredients are mostly canine specific for the Yorkie breed consisting of: brown and brewers rice, wheat gluten, chicken fat, corn gluten meal, chicken…

Pros
  • 141403
Cons
  • The packaging may not be eco-friendly

My larger breed pups love it!

This food is intended for a smaller breed dog, but my larger breed pups really liked it. The ingredients are fine and they didn't waste this food like they did some other brands. Overall, I am glad I gave this a shot and I do recommend this brand.

Pros
  • The only brand our little Yorkie will eat.
Cons
  • The kibble size may be too big for some senior dogs, making it difficult to chew

The current price is abusive. My dog love this food. We transitioned him to another brand and he's happy again. Don't waste your money.

Pros
  • The kibble has a unique shape, size, texture, and density adapted to the Yorkshire Terrier’s small jaw, is rehydratable, and helps reduce tartar formation by encouraging your aging dog to chew
Cons
  • The dog food may cause bad breath due to its strong aroma

My Dog loves this food!

I decided to do a taste test with my girl. I put down her current food and this food next to each other to see what would she eat first. She devoured this food and left her current brand just sitting there! I think this says it all! What I love is the bag is closeable so no more bug surprises that can sometimes happen when you pour out the dog food.

Pros
  • My little finicky Yorkie loves it, so I gotta love it too♥️
Cons
  • Not suitable for dogs with kidney or liver problems due to high protein content

Double check package size

This seller is selling the 2.5 pound package for the same price that I typically pay for the 10 pound bag. Buyer beware and double check your order before purchasing. It was my error, and I paid four times the normal price. Product itself is very good

Pros
  • My dog has been eating Royal Canin for 9 years. It is less at Revain than I used to buy at Pet Smart.
Cons
  • Contains chicken by-product meal which is not a high-quality protein source
