not so much - faucet accessory

Looks like you got a coffee grinder for that price. Was shocked that I would have to shell out another $750 for a coffee grinder. The price is too high and does not match the price. You can buy a lot of blades for that price.

Nice juggling, but don't get cocky!

The device promises to work well, but to my chagrin I've found that it can take a significant learning curve. I ruined a set of knives/blades and forced myself to spend over $100 for a new set. Read the instructions carefully and watch any video tutorials you can find about the device (YouTube, etc.)! Above all, make sure you understand everything and then . . . take your time. Incrementalism works best in this case.

Pros
  • Best in its niche

The only Tormek mount I've had issues with.

The Tormek system is great. Difficult to get the angle right with this planer/joiner attachment. My 40 year old jointer has thick blades and I can't level the angle without grinding part of the jig. I had better luck with my thin disposable planes. The problem is that water drips onto the top of the Tormek and spills all over the place. Includes rubber drive wheel under leather polishing pad. As soon as the drive wheel gets wet, the grinding from slip stops. That's the only device I've hadโ€ฆ

very stable platform.

Let's face it, if you're about to buy this device you're already immersed in the Tormek sharpening system, just like me. Stop complaining about money. Having said that, I would like to say that this platform is incredibly well built. The metal is thick and durable, will not bend or sag. Like everything else I've bought for my Tormek. Did everyone else get a fun little packet of patches when you bought your kit? I quickly realized that it was a starter pack. The blades on my DeWalt plane areโ€ฆ

The metal bends. Don't force it.

The tool works well. But it cantilevers over the grinding wheel with this mechanism of guides, guides, pins and posts that can bend and flex. In the end, the sharpening only removes a few thousand from the blade. It becomes an art to estimate the (tiny) amount of force needed to press it against the grinding wheel in order for the finished blade to be perfectly straight and flat. Is the blade held by the grinding wheel and needs further sharpening? Or is it held by the mechanics and isโ€ฆ

I remember sharpening for this review over a month ago so I'm a little unsure of the details. I do remember, however, that the instructions said that to sharpen blades over 10 inches (I think it was 10), I had to move the blade in the jig. My dressing blades are 12" and I didn't have to move the blade in the jig. I had some nasty nicks on my blades. Each blade required multiple passes with multiple stone grindings between each pass. It worked. When I was done I was concerned that the bladesโ€ฆ
