Skeptical at first, but works great!

I bought this because it was cheap I mean quality 10k grit for $12 for a 4x2 piece of stone but only $12. I struggled to get my straight razor to pass the test with my hair dangling well I forgot I bought it just pulled it out and used it thinking it wouldn't do much but this gem made a difference and my razor passed the saggy hair test. I prefer natural stones over synthetic ones for various reasons but this route is going to be expensive, I'm just glad I found this stone!

Nice fine-grained hard rock

This is a hard rock. It is NOT intended for removing large amounts of material, but for finishing (sharpening) an already sharp blade. No whetstone is easy to use; A slight tilt of the blade can negate several minutes of careful sharpening. But for its size. I use it to sharpen blades in the workshop and in the field; it fits in my pocket and is always there when I need it. For serious multi-blade work it's not the best choice, but for re-sharpening a blade that has become less sharp with use…

Pros
  • Hand tool
Cons
  • Large and bulky

An excellent stone for the final mirror polishing of the blade.

I used this stone for the final mirror polish on a cpm s1110v blade. It is one of the toughest, if not the most wear-resistant, knife steels money can buy. I've been chopping by hand for a little over 50 years. At that time, all you had was hand sharpening with corundum or Arkansas stones. I wanted to experiment with sharpening other than diamond to get closer to that. Then finish to a high gloss. I also have a 3 carat ruby cut as a final step before using this stone. Results. I would suggest…
