Tektro brakes exchanged!

I'm repairing my Trek 7200 Hybrid that came with Tektro V-Brakes (Linear Pull). I needed new brake pads and wanted to try the Kool-Stop Hybrid pads but saw this with the new pads and thought I might as well upgrade my brakes. For just a few dollars more, they offer better stopping power than my Tektros have ever done! I can only imagine what they can do with Kool-Stops when those Shimano pads wear out. Installation was very easy! Pros: Better stopping power than the atelttis they use with the…

Pros
  • Efficient design with little effort

  • Out of fashion

Fits my bike but instructions were very limited

I bought these to repair an old bike that needed new cables and brake pads. For the price I switched to all of these sets. Cables are not included, neither are levers. I read reviews that someone used them on the same model of my bike, an older Trek 7200 hybrid, so I figured they would work. I also read that there is no real difference between the front and rear kits and since the rear kit was on standby I ordered 2 front kits. They work, at least well enough. The spring isn't as strong as on…

Pros
  • X-Type V-Brake
Cons
  • Slightly dented

Fantastic Shimano V-brakes

These brakes are really good if a bit pricey when bought as a set but worth every penny. See all V-brakes work on my Huffy bike which I'm going to end up giving to a friend as I've now switched to a used specialty bike I bought from someone local. Getting back to the brakes, the quality of the Shimano Alivio BR-T4000 is pretty pleasing considering they only come in silver or black. My previous brakes (which were of this particular model) had a spring that broke after flexing too much. I've…

Shimano V-brakes are a bad design in many ways.

I have to repeat the experience JRP mentions here - Shimano made a mistake in developing tolerances for their V-brakes with integrated hubs and the T4000 is no exception. I've also found that Shimano brakes don't sit flush with regular V-brake cleats (I haven't found Shimano spec cleats yet, to be honest, although I'm sure they are out there somewhere) and that For practical reasons, the pen does not sit deep enough in the frame. But perhaps my biggest concern is that the bolts that come with…
