Works great on a converted MTB

Used on a MTB converted to SS with no problems. Well, as long as you can match the tooth spacing to the tensioner, you'll be gtg. The tensioner uses spacers to adjust the chain, but that's not enough. This is necessary to be able to adjust the distance between the teeth. If you can't move the gear left or right, this tensioner can be a headache.

Pros
  • . Lots of positive emotions
Cons
  • Secret

I haven't had any luck with these types of tensioners

I don't have Shimano Alfine gear for my setup. But that didn't stop me from using it as a chain tensioner. It works and it's reliable. It certainly doesn't look as clean as a regular single speed tensioner. But I haven't had any luck with these types of peepers. But it works great with any combination of gears. It doesn't look like a single speed setting though.

Pros
  • Slim design
Cons
  • High price

Make sure you have a handle on your chain!

Attention NEXUS and Alfine IGH Users: BEFORE YOU BUY. Make sure you have a handle on your chain! If you make a mistake, make sure you are wrong on the bottom bracket/crank side, which is on the short side, because IF YOU FIND THAT YOU NEED TO EXTEND YOUR GEAR TO SUPPORT THE CHAINLINE, THIS WILL WORK PUPPIES NOT! You can use spacers if you're short, but if you're long you're screwed. otherwise it works great. a bit overpriced, but as an Alfine 8 user, I'm totally bogged down with $Add-Ons$.

Pros
  • Excellent Overall Performance
Cons
  • Disappear

Didn't like: Sport

Although this tensioner was the cheapest stiff and sturdy piece of equipment I, a five year old professional bike mechanic, have seen. It's really meant for the Shimano Alfine line of components. I foolishly tried to use it in my single speed Torelli carbon fiber rebuild. I tried, I did. Unfortunately you cannot achieve proper chain alignment with a Torelli Tocatta frame and Campy Mirage cranks spinning with a Campy Pista ring, this tensioner and Spinergy Xaero Lite wheels! I have used it…

Pros
  • Absolute Legend
Cons
  • Repair

I love the simplicity of One Speed

I love the simplicity of One-Speed and with the recent addition of the bad drivetrain fat bike to the stable I thought I'd go down that route, at least for a while. What I don't like about SS is that the gears are pretty high for what I ride, narrow, enduro, trials and such, and the lowest chainring you can get is 36 for SS, and the lowest gear is about 20. which is too high for some of the hills i ride. However, when I enter the connecting roads, I find myself very low, so I will cheat. Single

Pros
  • everything is fine!
Cons
  • Expensive
