Good quality chain: Drive Components

Just received and installed on my Trek mountain bike. My Trek bike is over 10 years old and I keep it in top shape by replacing the Bontrager tires and Shimano chain every two years when they show signs of wear.

Pros
  • Pleasant
Cons
  • Upgradeable

Decent chain for the price - except for the master link

The master link included in this chain is practically useless. I've found this to be the case with three different inexpensive networks I've tried. I recommend buying a few basic links if you want to quell your frustration.

Pros
  • Free for educational purposes
Cons
  • Reverse print

I love these chains

I love these chains! This is the strongest feel I've used and I've used quite a bit. They are way better than shiny metal chains. The main link is included but I have never used them. It's a great choice, especially for the $12 I paid for it :)

Pros
  • Quality construction
Cons
  • Little things

The quick link is too small so I can't connect the chain.

It won't connect! The quick connect part is too short. Two adults spent an hour turning it on. It should slide and snap with your fingers. We tried to force it with a pair of pliers and it just doesn't work. The pictures show why.

Pros
  • Excellent overall performance
Cons
  • Poorly thought out

Looks good. Durability remains TBD.

The necklace looks great, arrived well packaged. Longevity is questionable as I've recently noticed that many of the newer lower to mid range Shimano products don't have the quality of their older products. This, along with other system components, replaces those that lasted over 20 years and put 25,000 miles on the old Trek, so time will tell.

Pros
  • Price
Cons
  • A few little things

do not buy quick link

what a mistake. I've been using these chains for years and break the chain with a tool. now, with the new quick link, it's very, very hard to turn off the "quick" link and almost impossible to turn one back on. so i watched the video. The old quick link could not be deactivated. bought an instrument. still didn't work. took it to a bike shop. he couldn't remove it or put in a new one without swearing a lot and twisting the chain. much easier with the old system, i'm sure quick links work better
