Poorly made: Sifter

Poorly made handgrip mechanism. Any not quite right pressure on it will flip him sideways, edge him and stop the action. Significantly increases the time it takes to sift something. If I had to guess, the steel was pressed from the original 1950's molds and the edges of the mold were deteriorating. Do not buy this sieve.

Pros
  • Fingers crossed
Cons
  • Cable is shorter than other picks

Makes baking difficult

I actually bought this hoping it would make baking easier, but the mechanism kept jamming and wouldn't release the flour. After thorough washing and with flour between the sifted parts, everything broke and now the wheel below doesn't move anymore. Not recommended! Just one use and it was made for it. To return.

Pros
  • Great for me
Cons
  • Safety

TORTURE! on molds for baking

Using this thing is pure torture, muscles ache! I hate it, it's the worst screen I've ever had in my life. It compresses very heavily and sometimes sticks/glitchs. The flour comes out so slowly and infrequently that it takes forever and a whole day to complete the sifting, and not all the flour comes out, it all gets stuck in the layers of the lattice. I hate this. I have to get another one!

difficult to clean, mechanism jams

Do not wash in hot water. Rinse thoroughly in cold water before washing in hot water. My grandson helped me, and the flour on the sieve, immersed in warm water, turned into hard flour "crackers" now stuck between layers of steel mesh. These crackers disrupt the mechanism. The manual mechanism is actually slow and tiring to the hand. I wouldn't buy this again.

Broke after first use

Honestly I don't know what happened to it. I used it once and I liked it. It worked well, allowing me to sift flour with one hand and scold the baby with the other. It has been hand washed and air dried. I put it away and didn't touch it for weeks. When I tried to use it a second time, it didn't work. Something happened to the spring and trigger. The trigger appeared to be twisted and the spring would not rotate. My husband tried unsuccessfully to fix it. The idea is great, but the quality is…

When the recipe says "seven, " they mean it!

This one has a good grip. There's some resistance when I press and doesn't spin like a fan. It does the right job of screening with far less hand fatigue. The most important thing is NOT to squeak! I have several family recipes that use sifted flour. I couldn't find one of these tools in real life so I figured it was just an old tool from my grandma's kitchen that they don't make anymore. Instead, I tried using a colander and spoon. It was useless. I tried to make a recipe without sifting. I…

Raise the chair, it's going to take a while

I keep trying different grab screens because hand screens are dirty (at least for me). The one I like has a "pot handle". but eventually it breaks down. I got this one because it was highly rated. I'm not sure if people have never used a colander and don't know what to expect or if they like it because it's shiny. If you bake more than occasionally, spend this. Inside are two screens spaced about half an inch apart. It has two "wheels" meant to wipe flour, but they don't touch the screen at…
