Optimize Your Baseball and Softball Swing with the SKLZ Hit-A-Way Batting Swing Trainer Review

We bought this punch on the 18th July and it was and still is a great punching tool. He was doing well up until this week, April 19. While my 8 year old was doing her normal batting practice, she missed the ball and hit the cable/clip and the cable broke (the clamp didn't fail, the cable broke). I witnessed the usefulness of this practice tool to improve my shooting but the quality was disappointing.

I thought it would be cool, but it's not. Looked good when I opened it. Unfortunately, the Velcro straps are not long enough to attach to a 4x4 basketball hoop post or 4x4 playground post. It's also not long enough to use on our 4-5 inch pedigree trees. So unless you have a very thin basketball post it will be difficult to find a place to attach it. The top strap must be removed. at a height of 5-6 feet, which is taller than most fence posts. We sent it back.

Good for unlimited practice swings when you are alone. This is the third I have bought over the years and it has gotten better over the years. Bar straps have been improved over previous additions. The softball seems to be holding up better than previous versions. Has held up well so far, the ball usually breaks or the cables fray where you hit the ball after a lot of effort. Which is reasonable since he's constantly being hit with a club as hard as anyone can hit him.

That seemed like a good idea at first. It's not about the quality or if it works, it's about the fact that he forces the young player to make terrible swing after terrible swing to make contact with the ball. Just received, unboxed and was excited to get my 7 year old to practice. It works terribly. The cords are too long and not stiff enough, there is no "spring” in them, the cord just sluggishly wraps around the bar and slowly unwinds. I've tried the height instructions and a few more variations, I've tried several iterations of the stand. It just doesn't work. Even I didn't like it. I saw a video for the trainer that comes with the stand and it doesn't work that well, especially for kids. Update:

Predictably when I use this it works. The speed is too slow to be anything more than a leisurely exercise in the consistency of your swing. I got this for my son (little league) and it doesn't help to learn the consistent swing. Mostly because the tether fails and it is very difficult to keep using it without stopping, resetting the tether, etc. However, it acts as a deterrent. So you got it. But the anger made my son give it up. The end result is that it is not used and money/effort is wasted.

Cute and simple baseball gadget! Once set up you can adjust the height, high or low, but it takes some effort, the cable is heavy and very durable. So far, so good.
