and i love it! I had a cheap sliding bevel from .

I can't say how long this will take, but I used this tool once to put on some dovetails and I love it! I had a cheap sliding bevel from the hardware store, but no matter how hard I tried to tighten it, a little bump would cause it to lose its adjustment. This one is very easy to install and I like that the set screw is on the back so it doesn't get in the way.

Pros
  • High marks for support and durability from testers
Cons
  • poorly thought out

Handy tool in Measuring and Layout Tools

I bought another Shinwa sliding bevel that has a locking mechanism in the head. The locking mechanism got in the way when using the tool, so I decided to try this model. This is the fourth Shinwa instrument I have purchased and they are all very high quality. The locking mechanism on the underside of the base allows this tool to do any job that I couldn't do with any other sliding bevel. The tool is easy to use and the locking mechanism keeps the blade secure. highlighted.

Shinwa Quality?: Carpenter's square

While the function of the T-Bevel is unmistakable, the fit and shape is not what I expect from Shinwa tools. The body of the tool is machined on a belt sander and is not very flat. The blade is wider than the body and not centered in its slot. Its end radius makes the corner stick out at certain settings. The blade pivot is smaller than the slot for smooth movement. The design is pretty nice with the end clip but I'm disappointed with the overall end result. If you get what I mean, that's just…

Beautiful locking mechanism

I like the blade locking mechanism. My old Stanley wing nut often gets in the way and I can never tighten it enough to actually secure the blade. The Shinwa blade is made of forged steel and is not machined. So the edges of the blades have burrs from stamping and are not quite perpendicular to the surface of the blade. This may not be a problem for a building frame, but it can be a problem for precision woodworking or machining. For the price it should have machine ground or milled edges. I'll…

Quality product at a great price.

The best T-Bevel I have ever used. I've used others over the years, most recently Empire bought the HD form. The pan screw has a large knurled nut. No matter how hard I twist it, the blade still moves when I don't want it to. This Shinwa locks very firmly with moderate pressure on the wing nut. If I turn it another half turn, I can put a ten pound weight on the end of the blade and it won't move at all. Strong enough to transfer corners to another workpiece or mount a saw blade. Very happy with

  • There are other interesting options.

Not as comfortable as expected.

Nothing wrong with that, just a little rough to the touch for $28. They could have done better on the flat sides of the casting. The flush set screw isn't a bother, but the downside is that it requires a Phillips screwdriver to adjust. If it holds the right torque without having to constantly readjust, then I'm happy. The blade seems hard and thick enough. I haven't used it enough to really put it through its paces. It has a handy eyelet screw on the end so you can hang it vertically which is…

Good locking mechanism

I like the blade locking mechanism. The tapered wing nut is often in the way and I can never tighten it enough to really secure the blade. The Shinwa blade is all stamped steel, not machined. As a result, the edges of the blade are deburred from stamping and are not quite square. to the blade surface. This may not be a problem for a building frame, but it may be a problem for precision woodworking or machining. For the price, it should have machine ground or routed edges.Others have mentioned…

Works great, lasts.

I bought this as a Father's Day gift last month. For the past few years, my father has been making all sorts of things using only hand tools. It had a sliding bevel that he used a lot, but often lost its angle with just a few light jabs, so I looked for something that stayed a little more correct. Happy to report this does the job perfectly! A small wing nut on the underside tightens the blade and holds it in place. I didn't realize this when I originally ordered the item, but I was also…
