This 'stone' is particularly useful when it comes to sharpening the flat side of (disassembled) Bypass Secateurs. With frequent use, the top edge of the flat side tends to round off. This can be fixed by moving the flat side back and forth over this "stone". This also comes in handy when preparing a badly neglected/mangled ax blade for final sharpening.

I am very happy with this product. Smith diamond sharpeners are well built and comparable in quality to more expensive diamond sharpeners such as DMT. I have read reviews from other Revain reviewers who have complained that their Smith diamond stones are not flat. I have never experienced this with any of my Smith products.
