Works with USB OTG adapter! Extravagant appeal

It's really just a USB to RS485 serial adapter, but the fact that I can use an OTG cable and get info from my charge controller on my phone is great boring. And the price was fantastic! $10 for both parts. You can't beat that! If you're buying a SolarEpic MPPT 40A Solar Charge Controller 150V PV Input Tracer 4215BN, you need to take these cables with you.

Pros
  • Great for a small home
Cons
  • Something different

Solar and wind power temperature sensor

Bought to play with. In fact, temperature compensation has been developed for AGM batteries that are constantly being charged. Its purpose was to stop thermal runaway. This isn't typically a problem for home solar applications, so you probably won't need it. The form on Solarpaneltalk.com will tell you more than you ever wanted to know. However, it's fun to play with and cheap enough to experiment with.

Pros
  • High marks for support and durability from testers
Cons
  • Doubtful

USB to 485 not properly connected

I bought 4 of these (not all from the same seller) and all the temp sensors were fine but NONE of the USB RS485 ports worked. I found online where EPEver informed another person that the recently shipped (that's June 2019) adapters were incorrectly connected and the black and yellow wires needed to be swapped. I did it and Viola!, it worked. I still have 3 that don't work and one with tape that WORKS.

Pros
  • cool product
Cons
  • out of style

Cable length poorly thought out

Temperature cable is longer than it really should be (I mean, who places their batteries 6-8 feet from the charge controller? Thick wire is expensive and voltage drops unnecessary log work degrades performance) and the USB cable is too short. (Who puts a computer within 4 feet of their charge controller?) But for everything they do, they work as advertised with no noise or fuss. SolarEpic: If you listen. try changing the cable length. Temperature sensor cables would be GOOD at 4ft long, and a…

Pros
  • Excellent overall performance
Cons
  • Not sure

Works great for temperature and RS485 port. My main task was updating the parameters of the controllers and the temperature sensor is just an added bonus for me. I wanted to change the battery settings to better match the voltage levels I wanted to see while running. The battery temperature sensor was just an added bonus! Since I use mine as part of a stand alone (camping) power supply I have shortened the cord so that it can easily be plugged into the top of one of my battery packs. Although…

Pros
  • Inspires trust
Cons
  • The list will be long.
