I bought this unit because it gradually decreases the volume in sleep timer mode and gradually increases the volume in wake/alarm mode. In each mode, you can use the device to determine how long you listen to CD or radio. The device allows you to use multiple alarms, so you can wake up to a CD and then switch to radio mode with the second alarm setting. I wake up to a CD playing a relaxing CD and 10 minutes later the second alarm clock switches to the radio to hear the morning news. I love this

Overall this device is disappointing, especially for the price and the Sony name. Despite two front speakers and a rear "subwoofer", the sound is tinny and weak.
