Not sure how long they will last.

Last year I bought a 2005 Rinker Captiva from a good friend and he previously replaced all 4 original speakers with a Sony XSMP1611. The two in the cabin still work great but the two in front have deteriorated as you can see in the picture. These speakers have great sound quality, are easy to install and in my opinion represent excellent value for money. So I'm giving them a second chance. This boat has always been stored in a garage so I hope Sony has upped the marine quality of these…

  • Absolutely amazing!

SONY Marine Speakers

This company is reliable, good value, delivers well packaged and on time as promised. I just hope I get more out of these speakers than the last pair I bought. Previous SONY speakers stopped working a little over a year after installation. When I say "stop working" I mean they are DEAD - failed the continuity test. Poor quality considering the speakers are housed in a SUNBRELLA canopy cabinet and used less than 30 hours. The AM/FM/CD receiver is 14 years old and works great as do the speakers…

Good sound but short lived

Good sound for the size but doesn't last long. Only buy them if you have no other choice. They only last about a year or two, even though they're labeled "marine" speakers. The material of the cone is of the lowest quality and will quickly degrade when exposed to the marine environment. Plan to change them often. I have a fourth set as no other speakers fit. Sony is obviously aware of this and isn't fixing the problem as it allows them to sell more speakers. UPDATE 1 YEAR LATER: It has been 1…

Great Sound - Marine Speakers

Somehow our only speaker broke on our 2007 Cobalt boat. I looked for a replacement but they don't make them anymore. These are the new ones Sony makes, which is why we bought them. We went to a few boat shops and looked at different ones and even bought a different brand and installed them but the sound wasn't very good and cost a lot more. My husband sent them back and ordered from Revain. They are perfect for replacing old ones and are much easier to install than other brands. The sound is…

Poor quality, poor design and overall not worth the money

I replaced an existing set of Fusion marine speakers which cost about the same as these Sony speakers. I bought these thinking I would get a certain level of quality because they were made by Sony. I was wrong, these speakers are terrible. They weigh about half as much as the Fusion speakers (same power) and sound half as good. The design of the speaker covers is also pretty ridiculous for marine use. The screws holding the screws go through the grille exposing the head of the screw. Cheap…

Pros
  • Pretty impressive
Cons
  • I don't have much to complain about, everything is fine

Great price for good speakers!

I bought these Sony speakers to replace those that look like Pioneer car speakers (the Pioneer grille is rusted and the rubber around the diffuser is deformed). Initially I wanted to go with another brand, but the main unit and speakers were Sony, so I decided to stick with this brand. I was hesitant to order them at first due to reviews saying they didn't last at all. Time will tell, I will update in a year. Pros: They were easy to install. The holes in the old speakers matched. Even if I had…
