This tester shows if there is power even when it is not. Sometimes lights up against the background of a white window frame where there is no electricity. DO NOT BUY.

It's very fast and gives accurate readings when power is present and confirms whether the circuit is hot or not. This is a mandatory device to avoid unexpected electric shock.

Everything seemed to be working fine at first but then the alarm started sounding two or three inches from the live wire. This made it impossible to see which lines were live in the immediate vicinity and which were not. Too sensitive for practical use. I'll use a digital meter again and we'll see what the lifetime guarantee is worth!

The Sperry device is much better than the cheap voltage tester I have used for many years. The cheap unit let me check with a separate ammeter as it still beeps after the circuit is off and I had to click power a couple of times just in case, but the Sperry is always accurate and has a built in backlight. Bought this to replace another Sperry. There are a few design issues. 1 battery compartment does not remain closed. this is a problem, especially as it is a pocket clip. Second, the power button is prone to dirt and debris, rendering it inoperable. I bought a cheaper GB which was much better.

I bought this after completing a small electrical project in our attic. To be on the safe side, I turned off the electricity in more than half of our house before cutting the wire.
