Not loud enough: Two-way marine radios

Standard Horizon is a very good branded radio but this model is not loud enough. I put it in a Polaris RZR for trail riding. I had to install an external speaker to hear the sound of the engine. Using the radio in a noisy environment isn't what you want, but it works just fine.

Pros
  • ITU-R M493-13 Class D DSC (Digital Selective Calling) compliant
Cons
  • It's OK

Is DSC a new business?

I have had a ray240 MODULAR radio system for 15 years. NEVER used DCS, not even sure how it really works. now it even has this cheap little radio, and again he'll never plug it in or use it. I DON'T WANT A STUPID COMPUTER SCREEN IN MY CAR EVEN! The radio is compact and not as straight forward as we'd like. Ditch DSC and give us channel up/down buttons on the mic instead.

Pros
  • Easy to use icon/menu system
Cons
  • Something different

Great simple fixed mount for VHF marine radio

Installed on the dashboard of my 24ft Sea Pro. The original radio was broken (16 years old). Installed with existing 8" Shakespearean antenna and originally did not broadcast radio. I found heavy corrosion in the antenna itself, and when I replaced it and plugged it in, great! Received a strong radio check from my entrance to Sea Tow Station 5 miles away on 1W. So on water set at 25 watts you can expect some pretty serious ranges (within sight of course) from shore. Many features like DSC, NMEA

Pros
  • Easy to use icon/menu system
Cons
  • Lightly dented
