Description of Stanley Proto J5008M 8 Inch Socket

Proto 12 Point Sockets are ideal for use on stubborn or damaged fasteners and also on fasteners made from soft materials. The Torque Plus design is a high performance drive configuration which allows for quick and easy socket engagement to the fastener flats. The Torque Plus configuration employs a radius-corner design, shifting contact area and stress away from the fastener corners. The Torque Plus internal design minimizes fastener rounding, helps to extend fastener life. Made in USA.

Frustrating Socket, Not Worth it

As a result of using this product, I found that it was difficult to grip and kept slipping off the nut. The size and weight of the socket made it cumbersome to use as well. The only positive aspect was its durability, but that wasn't enough to make up for the frustrating experience of trying to use it.

Pros
  • Durable
Cons
  • Difficult to grip, cumbersome to use.

Fairly good quality socket

Fairly high quality socket, made in the USA. Fairly pricey, but it definitely takes a beating while still holding up great.

Pros
  • Torque Plus internal design minimizes fastener rounding and increases fastener life
Cons
  • Fast OK

Great head at a great price

Not a clip-on or expensive proto, but a DIYer will last a lifetime and always come back hand The way to your children. The build and finish looks good and you would have to abuse it to break it as the thickness and materials are nothing like the cheaper sockets I've seen. I spend brand money on the sizes I use frequently, but for my temporary outlets I don't see the need for an expensive outlet that just sits in my box most of the time.

Pros
  • The Torque Plus configuration uses a rounded corner design to move the contact area and stress away from the mounting corners
Cons
  • Nothing here
