Use it in that empty drive bay 5.25

The front door is plastic but looks solid. The anti-vibrator mounting scheme seems to work well. Drive alignment works well on several blue WD drives I've tried so far. the lock with key is purely mechanical; it does NOT turn off power to the drive. on the front panel there is an LED under the lock; This LED connects to a cable, maybe 12 inches, and a 2-pin connector for the motherboard or RAID card. Handy for backups; much faster than external USB drives and less expensive if you have multiple

Now useless activity lights, a way to save money

I have 3 of these lights in my system but one of the power cords melted the other day. Speaking of which, maybe this led to the next part and why I gave my replacement unit 1 star. My other devices came with a special power cable that had a pair parallel to the pair on the main SATA power harness that went to a connector on the device to turn on the activity lights. Now the activity lights are only connected with a cable that you need to connect to the motherboard. How many HDD activity LEDs do

Works like clockwork

Converting an old PC to a FreeNAS box and wanted to find a better solution to fit a Keeping a spare drive in the system instead of just hanging it outside in the PC case. Bought this Orico HDD Bracket (B01LZWX6PD) together with StarTech 3.5 Hot Swap HDD Rack (HSB100SATBK). Installed a hot-swappable rack in the system, put the SSD in the bracket and plugged the whole thing into the PC with no problems. . At first I thought I might hit a snag since the mounting bracket was a bit shorter than a…

I am using this drive in combination with the StarTech.com 2.5" to 3.5" Aluminum SSD/HDD Hard Drive Adapter (25SAT35HDD). I installed it in the top 5.25" bay. I have a DVD-ROM underneath to support it. I can swap out any 2.5" laptop or 3.5" desktop hard drive. In In my BIOS configuration I have set SATA0 as the first boot device it is connected to.This combination allows me to use many flavors of Linux and Windows without having to dual boot and partition my hard drives. For example, if I use…

Excellent as expected.

I needed a hot swappable drive for my home computer and wanted to fill the front drive bay with this product. I stopped there. The build quality is good for aluminum, it has solid metal and components. The center panel and back panel are made of decent material, but these are obviously the cheapest spots in the product. Be careful with the zip tie inside, it feels like it might break but it doesn't look cheap - just be careful and don't use brute force. anything. The fit was perfect and it…

Suitable for data storage

Let me say one thing right away: This device does NOT require a lock. used to power the attached hard drive. Not sure why the reviews on this are so confusing/controversial but on my personal record I didn't have to lock the door to turn on the hard drive. Maybe people get racks upside down with the power button? This stand did exactly what I needed. Installed in my case it looks great. I put the connected LED cable aside as I didn't want to figure out how to connect it to the motherboard and…
