Description of StarTech Com USB C Hard Drive Enclosure

INCREASED FUNCTIONALITY: The USB 3.1 Gen 2 2.5” SATA hard drive enclosure supports 10 Gbps but current SATA hard drives are limited to 6 Gbps. MAXIMUM COMPATIBILITY: A USB Type-C to Micro-B cable helps connect newer USB-C enabled devices. A USB Type-A to Micro-B cable ensures backward compatibility with your existing USB 3.0/2.0 devices. EASY TO USE: The laptop HDD enclosure is powered directly from the USB port, which means no external power is required. For portable storage, you can tuck it away inside your laptop bag. STURDY CONSTRUCTION: The laptop to external hard drive is made with a durable aluminum housing and venting, that help to passively cool the drive, in order to prevent drive failure and data loss.

Will not work with Seagate Momentus 4TB 15mm Hard Drive.

This case will not fit Seagate Momentus 4TB 15mm 2.5 hard drives. It works with 2.5 500GB drives. A controller problem seems to be to blame. Unfortunately, StarTech has not tested the controller board with drives larger than 4TB. This is very bad because this is the main reason you want to buy this product.

Convenient HDD Enclosure

This really helped me move everything from my existing HDD to a new SSD for my Windows 10 PC (I was tired of waiting forever for something to open or run, so I switched the drives to a fixed state ). It now contains my old backup disk. My only complaint was that it came with the latest USB port, which none of the computers have, and there was no local source for an adapter for my old USB port size. I think the provider should make sure you understand that the USB cable uses the latest…

Cannot connect to Mac

I love the design of this Time Machine backup case. Unfortunately, in this case, the drive turns off regularly. I bought one for me and my son, I thought of my own accord. Moved the drive to a different case, no problems. In this case, put in another drive and had the same problem. One day I was talking to my son in college and I asked him if he backed up his computer and I was informed that it keeps crashing. A new disc was delivered in a case that has been proven to be in good condition. When

Can't beat the price

I wanted to reuse an SSD from my old iMac that went in the trash. I didn't need an internal drive, but I can always use external spare storage. This unit was significantly cheaper than other alternatives and I love the "no tools" idea, not to mention that I have used StarTech products in the past and have always been satisfied which is why I chose this one. All I had to do was remove the cover, attach the self-adhesive foam padding to the front of the bay, insert the drive and push down the…

Nice drive case for PC/Mac but doesn't work with Sony PlayStation 5

I bought this drive case to use with SATA SSD for Sony PlayStation 5 extended storage and unfortunately it works for that not purpose. PS5 doesn't like something about ASMedia's case and/or chipset. Regardless of the port, this caused problems for me; a message that the drive didn't eject properly (even though it didn't), the data was corrupt, couldn't be formatted, etc. I have an old StarTech SATA to USB 3.0 cable that I wanted to try it and it works fine with the PS5 so I can't tell if the…

Write/read speed 300/400 Mbps!

I bought this caddy over other cheaper units mainly because of the positive reviews of the unit's performance. I installed a 2 year old critical mx300 (ssd/750GB) and was able to get a very nice 400Mbps. Reading and just a little less writing (measured with Atto). The case appears to be of solid construction and doesn't feel like it's going to break too easily, although it's thin and doesn't offer much clearance or cushioning for the drive within the case. fall event. I knew this happened, it's

Star-Tech 2.5 " Hard Drive Enclosure

I put a 5TB Seagate SATA 6 hard drive in this case to offload 1TB of internet downloads. The specification on the case indicates a maximum speed of 10 GB. A USB-C cable is included in the box. I keep confusing USB-C with Thunderbolt 3, which would allow me to free up one of the two USB 3.1 ports, but it seems that USB-C is not a Thunderbolt 3 port, just Thunderbolt. Anyhow, the results I observed in the Windows "Move" dialog read a reading of 25MB per second at a full 1TB transfer rate. He…

Pros
  • Sturdy construction

  • Ugly packaging

I decided to run a POC for a company with 150 employees in case of a ransomware attack to store offline backups. Initially I paired these drives, which by the way have 4800TBW/5 year warranty on the 4TB model, with a cheaper Sabrent EC-UASP case which permanently damaged the SSD. I tried different computers and different cables, but all the drives ended up with corrupted data or had to be formatted like they were new. I finally dared to buy a StarTech case, which also has a solid metal case and

UPDATE - it's a USB case!

speed was ok but was disappointed it didn't pass trimcheck (so trim didn't pass). I'm hesitant to use an enclosure that doesn't skip trim with an SSD, so I've written to the company and won't be using it for now. 3/25/2017 - Update - Startech still doesn't provide firmware for this case to support Trim (although they've been working on it for months), but they have a 'new' model, S251BMU313CB, that seems to work. My mistake is that I believed and didn't send the case back :(. 4/21/2017 - Update
