It was slow there at first. Well, that's fast

Let me start by saying that this ethernet adapter does exactly what I need it for: gigabit ethernet transfer speeds. My problem: While trying to restore a disk image backup on my Dell Inspiron laptop, I found that my built-in ethernet network card was only a 100 BaseT device. The Ethernet transfer rate was extremely slow and it took more than 18 hours for the recovery process to complete. I installed the Startech USB 3.0 Gigabit Ethernet Adapter and the transfer speed has improved…

Better buy a new motherboard.

With Windows 10 I just plugged it into a USB3.0 socket, plugged in an Ethernet cable, turned on the computer, 2 lights on the device came on shortly after booting up. The internet icon has been enabled on the taskbar screen. There is internet, I checked the speed; 90 MPS down, 26 downloads. Got 25 MPS down, 20 up with USB2 and WIFI. The ethernet circuit on this motherboard stopped working, then I got a new MB, but I used it on another computer. StarTech came with an installation disc, but Win…

Works great after installing the beta driver

I'm using a 16-inch Macbook Pro with macOS Big Sur. I keep this adapter connected to an external monitor and it is very fast! It didn't work until I downloaded the beta driver from the Startech website. I would have easily given this 5 stars if it had been plug and play. But I deducted a star because I had to download the driver, reboot, and then give it access to the system to boot properly. A little fiddly to set up, but took about 10 minutes.

simply fails with USB network adapters

so this is an updated post. It started normally and then died about 6 months later. Painful during the presentation of the working video. I put it aside, attributing it to heat (it gets really hot.) After that, I couldn't get it to work for about a month. Out of boredom I put it back in about a month later and it worked. So I left it running and it went off again at the wrong time about a month later (was I expecting anything different?) So now it's off and I'll try UNI. Super disappointment…
