Works for Video best in my review

First, I purchased this with mo own money, no discount.A lot of USB C cables are not video capable. I needed this to connect my laptop to a portable USB C display. The display takes both video and power over the same connection. It is the SZOON 13.3 inch 2560 x 1440 display. I have not tested it on 4K (don't have a 4K monitor) yet. I will update the review when I do. The cable that came with the display is a 1 meter and is fairly stiff. Since I have the 2 displays as close to each other as…

The best cable for 2021

I’m no computer tech expert but I am pretty sure this is the best cord you can buy for connecting a thunderbolt 3 laptop to a thunderbolt 3 monitor. I have two Lenovo 32 inch 4K monitors that power my laptop through this cord. It is nice to not have to use a docking station when a cord like this can power a laptop and provide 4K and have enough juice to power USB ports and another 4K monitor through a tb3 daisy chain out. If there is a faster, more powerful cable out there, I’m not aware of it.

Pros
  • I mean it does what it’s supposed to do
Cons
  • Its a lie, not support TB3.

It's a good cable.

I got this cable because I wanted to have a high quality USB-C cable that can handle top end power and data throughput, and also be of reasonable length (I didn't have any long USB-C cables on me). So far, I have not tested it in any high speed data applications, but I have been using it a lot with high speed charging for my devices. The length and build quality are the strongest selling points to me. The 6ft of cable lets me route it anywhere I need it to go on my desk and between devices, and

Works for connecting eGPU to my mac

It works perfectly for connecting a Mac mini and a Sonnet Breakaway Box (550 W) with a RX 580 graphics card. Just works like any passive, 40 Gbps Thunderbolt 3 cables. However there might be differences between passive and active cables for connecting laptops to displays. If your monitor arrives with an active Thunderbolt 3 cable (Mostly seen on 8K/5K and 4K monitors with USB-C support), you would be fine. Otherwise you might run into some compatibility issues.

Pros
  • They work. They are sturdy. Hopefully they will last forever....
Cons
  • May not be compatible with older devices

As far as reliably delivering a Thunderbolt signal over a longer-than-typical distance for Thunderbolt via a sturdy cable, this is perfectly fine. What makes me a little bit uneasy is that the "mating" of the cable to one of my Thunderbolt 3 devices was extremely weak -- like it didn't "grab on" all the way. I was able to get it to loosely connect and stay in, but if the cable is substantially perturbed or even slightly tugged on, it'll come out.The device I had a problem with…

Pros
  • Laptop computer
Cons
  • Not suitable for extended use or continuous charging

Works Great - my new review

I bought this for a thunderbolt 3 dock I found at work. Seems to run my 4k 43 inch monitor just fine. My only complaint is it feels. very flexible. The price is very competitive with Belkin, my 2nd option if this startech one wasn't available. Update: After 1 year the cord still works great, I bought another one (the longer 2.7 feet one) to connect to my 4K Monitor. Not sure how long it will last, but I hope a very long time!

Pros
  • It works! Price is a bit premium. No performance or connectivity problems.
Cons
  • May not support fast charging for all devices

Does not work work with LG 38UC99-W monitor

Nice looking cable. Same thickness as the original LG cable that came with the monitor, but it does not work with a LG 38UC99-W 37.5" 21:9 WQHD monitor and a 2017 or 2018 Macbook Pro. The Macbook recognizes the cable and will provide power from the monitor to the Macbook, but it will not recognize the display from a video perspective. It also does not recognize any peripherals (webcam, mic) that are connected to the monitor. I was expecting this longer cable to work like the original LG cable…

Pros
  • Finally a cable that works as it should
Cons
  • Cord length is too short for some users

Performs worse than USB-C cable that came with Dell U2720Q display.

I have a 2018 Mac Mini with Dell U2720Q display. I use the USB-C cable that comes with the display, and when using this cable, I have to choose betweenHigh Resolution--4K @60Hz, but USB speed is 2.0 <--Current settingHigh Data Speed--USB speed is 3.1, but 4K @30HzI want 4K @60Hz _and_ USB 3.1 so that I can use the 4 USB ports on the display at full USB3 speed. Going through many discussion forums, I found that the DisplayPort capability needs to be 1.4 (HBR3), which my Mini has, and the link

Does not work with Macbook Pro 2018 and Dell U4320Q

I have a 2018 MacBook Pro and a Dell U4320Q monitor. The cable that ships with the Dell monitor is really short and I wanted a longer cable so I could position my laptop to the side of my desk. The StarTech cable charged my laptop and connected USB devices but the display was never detected. I tried various troubleshooting but no luck. Using the Dell-supplied cable in the same configuration worked instantly with no issues. I guess there is some subtle hardware or software compatibility issue…

Pros
  • Good product for my MacBook
Cons
  • Larger size may cause inconvenience when traveling

Does everything expected, is sturdy, and connects securely. Speed seems to be as advertised, but I have not stressed the very upper bound on claimed speed. There are very few reliable cables of this type at this length, which is very convenient.

Pros
  • ‎Usb
Cons
  • Connector may become damaged or corroded over time

NOT a Thunderbolt 3 Cable!

The cable will not provide full Thunderbolt 3 speeds. I get an average read/write speed of around 30 MB/s. That is USB 2.0 speed! I almost sent my external hard drive back, because i thought that there was something wrong with the drive. But then I tried a different cable and I was able to get read/write speeds in the 180 MB/s range on the same drive. The product is NOT a thunderbolt 3 cable, its not even a Thunderbolt 1 cable. It is a USB 2 cable with "C" connectors on each end. The…

EDIT: This DOES contain an e-marker! But it is not rated for 100W

Edit 7/15: It seems this cable IS indeed e-marked! The person I spoke to on the phone at Startech was mistaken! I provided a sample to Benson Leung to examine and this cable has an e-Marker reporting the following: I've increased the rating to 4 stars. Minus 1 only for not being USB-IF certified in the eMarker."> tw sendprime 1 0x104f ff008001Sent CC1 104f + 1 = 381> 12914.135518 SRC/0 [514f]VDM Vff00:DISCID,ACK:ff008041 1c002b1d 00000000 12010310 11082032 VDM Hdr ID Hdr CertStat…

Universal, compact cable to use everywhere.

I'm glad to have this one. Added couple USB-A adapters to it and use everywhere. Suitable for Super Charging of Samsung Tab 7S: provides 28w. It's flexible so it's possible to compact one and place into "pocket" easily.

Pros
  • It does the job, cable is supple.
Cons
  • Potential for overheating and damage to device or cable

A very nice USB-C cable, not not a video cable

This is a very nice, high quality USB-C cable. It contains typical StarTech.com build quality and excellent materials. However, the product description said this cable supports 60Hz 4K, which it does not. Nothing on the product packaging indicates 4K support. It is just a really nice, functional USB-C cable.

Pros
  • USB Cables
Cons
  • Potential for interference with other electronic devices

Does not transfer video

This cable only charges my laptops and transfers data from USB devices. The vendor claims this handles power, USB data, audio, and video. Well, it does only power and USB data. I have tried 4 different laptops and 3 different monitors. No video or audio in any configuration I try. I returned this overly expensive, useless cable.

Pros
  • High quality cable
Cons
  • Not ideal for outdoor use or harsh weather conditions

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Works good. A little loose.

If you want a 40 Gb/s 6ft cable, pickings are slim and this is one. It is handling 40 Gb/s fine for my Dell XPS 15 7590 and dual DP docking station hooked to two 4k displays. It is a slight bit lose in the connector for the Dell XPS 15. For the Lenovo T580 and T590 machines I have tried it on, it is really lose and connectivity becomes a bit of a problem. Then again Lenovo has really dropped the ball in multiple ways when it comes to TB3. A couple examples are the T590 only has 2 of the 4 lanes

Pros
  • ‎No
Cons
  • Potential for compatibility issues with certain software

Excellent product! for my opinion

Absolutely perfect! Works on every single TB3 that I own. Great quality. A bit pricey but reliability is king! That's my feedback.

Pros
  • As describe
Cons
  • Requires Thunderbolt 3 port to function properly

It doesn't do a great job of remaining in the socket

It doesn't do a great job of remaining in the socket. I haven't gotten the magnifying glass out, but I'm assuming it's missing a retention mechanism that my other USB type-c cables have. It's possible that is a feature and not a bug; as the cable is quite long and is more likely to get kicked or stepped on. That said, you have few options if you're looking for a cable at this length. The thing does technically work, but if it moves too much you may lose connection for a moment. It DOES handle…

Pros
  • High quality and high speed thunderbolt 3 cable.
Cons
  • Connector may need to be re-plugged in frequently

great fit for my Oculus

I mounted a battery on the back of my Oculus headset for balance, and this cable is the perfect length to plug in. Great fit.

Pros
  • Use it with my Universal Audio Apollo interfaces to my Mac. No problems.
Cons

Flaky TB3 connection

This cable won't consistently provide a stable TB3 connection anymore. It started having a flaky connection after a few months of ownership and it sometimes requires multiple removals & insertions for it to work

  • May not support charging and data transfer simultaneously
