Excellent pilot hole drilling

I used bits from my local mortar store but was only able to drill 5-10 holes before they dulled and stopped cutting. Drilling spot welds on an old machine. After putting them in I drilled 3x more with 1 bit and it was still going when I finally drilled them out. Great buy for the money.

Pros
  • Power and hand tools
Cons
  • Questionable senior purchase

field test results.

Just a weekend warrior working on a landscape project. Building a footbridge from two 12" Ibeam and 2x8 steel beams. Drill 2 holes on each end every 6" to attach the wood deck. As an experiment I bought Bosch, Dewalt and these bits. I was surprised that one of these bits did half the job. The other half burned the other "famous brands" bits listed and I used one of those to finish. I'm impressed. Very important.

Pros
  • Twist Drill
Cons
  • Ugly Packaging

Did the work on the frame

Poor frame corner iron is hard carbon steel that has burned or dulled many of the so-called metal bits I've tried. I am new to carbide drilling and have learned to drill SLOWLY and to use lube and no more than a few pounds of force on the drill press. "Smoke" means "slow down or stop" :) Don't force it! THESE drill bits are much more forgiving than previous cheap "metal drill bits" and after about 50 holes there is almost no deterioration. Now I can even drill 1/4" holes WITHOUT the pilot hole…

Pros
  • Electric drill parts and accessories
Cons
  • Something else
