We LOVE this kettle a lot, mostly for its unique character and because it fits well in our small log cabin, but it's definitely quite functional and appears to be made of quality material. . Very nice teapot. However, it has several problems: 1. The whistle only blows sometimes, and when it blows, you can't hear it when you are in another room.2. We have a gas stove. So that it doesn't get hot forever, we put it on a big, big flame. The red part of the chin melts and spreads over my plate.3. When pouring, the water spreads over the counter. I've only had one for a year but have already had to buy another kettle due to the issues I've listed. I do not recommend this.
