But it has to be checked if it works first

My collimator arrived in a large box with no packaging material. In fact, he was scattered all the time while he was out. When I unpacked it, the collimator turned on normally, but it didn't. To check, place two equally sized, strong (preferably metal) objects close together and place the collimator at the top between the two objects so that it can rotate freely but not move sideways. Turn on the laser and let it hit the wall about 10-15 feet away. Take a sticky pad and stick it where the laser

Bright, sharp and well-aimed

Considering its price compared to other offerings, this collimator is a steal! The aluminum body gives it a nice weight and the overall construction feels premium. It even has an O-ring around the battery compartment! My collimator was practically up. I didn't notice any movement of the laser point during the "roll test". If you don't, there are a couple of screws hidden under rubber caps on the top that you can use to make adjustments. The laser brightness setting has a non-linear response…

A great collimation tool when collimating a laser!

After buying my Orion XT10g and waiting for it to arrive, I knew I had to order a good laser collimator. This one seemed a perfect fit in every way as it included a 2" to 1.25" adapter, brightness adjustment and best of all, this collimator has it's own collimation adjustment screws. Two of these are sealed with silicone plugs (which need to be pryed out with a paperclip or something similar), and the third is under a warning label. Before using this device, you must ensure that the projected…

Works well after some initial setup.

This collimator works like any other of this style on the market. This is one of the cheapest laser collimators. There's a reason for that. QA seems to have missed the laser calibration step at the factory, after that it's actually ready to use. But there are key factors. It directs the beam to the center (as close as possible) of your focuser, secondary and primary mirrors. When I inserted the laser into the focuser and rotated it, the red dot on my primary mirror formed a 1.5 inch diameter…

May need recalibration

I bought this item 21 months ago with my eyes wide open due to a calibration issue and of course mine arrived requiring the adjustment described in many other reviews. It was an easy fix and well worth the 30 minute effort to save 50% off the price. It has served me well for almost two years, but I would like to mention two issues I have encountered recently. I suspect I've just run out of device life, but I'm sharing my experience so people know what to expect. 1) I recently stayed for two…

Works great with Barload's laser technology!

Good range of brightness levels. Came fairly collimated (adjustable). Works great with Barload's laser technology. Really simple and effective! Brightness: Fairly dim on the lowest setting to fairly bright at 4 or 5. Collimation/alignment of the laser itself. I assembled the jig using Lego (great suggestion I read online), set it on a granite countertop (glue the jig on the worktop to keep it from moving) and aimed at the wall at a distance of 6 meters. The diameter of the circle drawn on the…

Collim this thing!

ONE MONTH LATER: Downgraded to 2 stars. You can read below or take my word for it here: This laser collimator does not support collimation and the collimation screw calibration system is too cheap to work properly. Save money and buy something a little more expensive at the Astronomy Store. _____________________ 3 stars because you will most likely need to collimate this collimator. Otherwise, the device is made of metal and makes a solid impression. My collimator had to be collimated…
