USB Multiport for Networking Products

Multiport Received around 4th August 2010 Needed more ports for laptop. The laptop (ACER Aspire 5100) has 3 ports, one on the side and two on the back. Plugged (booted 4 usb lanes) into one of the rear ports and after a few days the rear ports stopped working. Went to an authorized service station and they believe the rear connectors are blown because the laptop connectors are supposed to be powering a multiport device. The ad states that an external power supply is not required and is not…

Economical and reliable device! Why pay more for a powered USB hub?

I have never had a problem with a Targus product. This miniature USB hub works just as well as any other 2.0 hub I've owned for about half the price. The version I received has a RED LED instead of a BLUE one. I don't care what color it is as long as the hub works properly. I had no issues with the length of the power cord or the USB cable that came with it. The device was recognized immediately in Win 7 and worked flawlessly for several days. The external build quality seems to be on par with…

Not so good. good for hubs

So I needed some easily accessible USB ports for my desktop so I didn't have to reach under my desk to connect something every time. I bought a 4-port USB2.0 PAUH217U. Another reviewer claimed their cord was nearly 6 feet long, but mine is 4 feet long, which was barely enough to reach the top of my desk. The cable to the computer has two USB connectors, one of which is conveniently colored red and labeled "Power". , Right? But no. I connected to three ports and my iPod started to…

Good little device for the money

This hub can be used with a laptop or desktop computer. Came with a 6ft Y splitter cable that can be used together or separately. The black input is used for power and data. Red provides power only (optional) and should be used when connecting high power devices such as printers or external drives. The only downside to this is that you must have 2 free USB ports. The device is automatically recognized when connected, so no driver installation is required. A good little device for the money and…

Great performance - easy to use!

This rating is for the 2.0 device. Great little center. Plug and play, don't worry about software. Contrary to other reviews, the cable length is sufficient. It's lightweight and ideal for moving around your desk when needed. I have a spare hard drive, iPod, iPad and wireless mouse. I took this with me on trips to the Middle East and didn't need a power converter. Nice to have for all "plugins".

Pros
  • Durable test results
Cons
  • Slightly dented

Works right out of the box

I bought this Targus powered 4 port mini hub mainly because of Targus' good reputation. Targus features high visibility LEDs on active ports. Works right out of the box. Since I needed a second hub, I settled on an APC-powered 4-port mini-hub, again based on APC's reputation. The APC hub is about $10 more and doesn't work as well. APC does not have LEDs on active ports. In addition, the infantry fighting vehicle is very hot; I wouldn't be surprised to see it burn out. I would give APC about 3…

No wonder it's called Ultra Mini!

This review is specific to the Targus PAUH217U Ultra Mini USB 2.0 4-Port Hub. The cable is about 2.5 feet long, long enough to go from my computer on the floor to the top of my desk. . It has a cable that splits into two USB connectors - one just for data transfer, the other for powering the device. The second plug doesn't need to be used unless you're planning on using some sort of high-power device, and if so, why buy a hub called Ultra Mini in the first place? If you insist on running the…
