Laughing SSD

Who needs a 60GB SSD? Yes of course. Installed Windows XP for nostalgia for it and it tears past the loading screen. Aside from the fact that Windows XP was never designed for SSDs, I had to manually TRIM and align partitions to keep the drive from wearing out quickly, but that's not the SSD's fault. Ran the benchmark and was higher than advertised, but another listing that appears to be the same model advertises 560 reads and 422 writes. So I have no idea what exactly is, nor can it be. I…

Pleasantly surprised and works well enough.

To be honest I didn't have high hopes for this drive at this price point, assuming it could only perform marginally better than traditional non-DRAM drives in this price range. As a general rule, I've found that DRAM drives are typically 128GB and non-DRAM drives are typically 120GB, as they use the difference for overprovisioning and (slower) caching. I'm happy to report that my expectations were wrong. While this drive isn't the best in its class, it's still much better than, say, the…

After installing this SSD in my system (240GB version) I was told in the drive properties that it was identified as an ADATA SP550. I found this quite interesting and googled the CrystalDiskMark results for the SP550 drive and then tested the one I got. Comparing the results, they came up with the SAME (if it wasn't for the drive, I would have gotten slightly higher scores in some tests). This leads me to believe that this drive is a rebranded ADATA SP550 drive. I think this is good news as the

Inexpensive, quiet, fast drive. On time delivery. Ironically, raw and ext4 read much faster than other filesystems. Writes MUCH slower than more expensive discs. For a cheap 1TB SSD, that's fast and plenty. The 480GB drive may be best suited for SATA II systems or as an SSD drive with a smaller SATA III boot drive. Tested on a Lenovo T430 on a SATA III mount point with Linux Mint 19 64-bit and Gnome Disk Utility. Read and write in MB/s 1000 x 10 MB sweeps. Test images: 480GB X31) raw (R)562.4…

This failed me: Datastore

I installed this SSD in a PC I built. After a month of moderate use, my computer suddenly froze on and off. After a forced reboot, it never got past the BIOS splash screen. After a few forced reboots, it eventually booted into Windows, but my PC wasn't working the way it used to. Boot times and overall performance were as low as a budget office PC. He also occasionally stuttered while performing normal PC tasks. After a few days of troubleshooting I came to the conclusion that the SSD is…
