Worn out quickly! - Fish and aquatic animals

Used in my 60's: 1st year - great! Quiet and powerful 5-way splitter with 2 bubble wands and 3 bubble stones! Bubble wands bend and break so much from the airflow. Year 2 - Half Dead! Quiet and at the moment it can barely run 2 bars of bubbles and not very well, so the effect has shifted from lively and wonderful to annoying and narcotic. I reduced consumption to an air stone, but by the end of the second year the pump was just struggling with it and had to be replaced entirely. How often do…

Quiet but not quiet - there are better ways to reduce noise

I have Whisper 10, 150, 300, Eheim 400 and Fusion 700. At 50% flow reduction the Fusion 700 is equal to or quieter than Whisper 150 but less consumption. By far the quietest of these is the Eheim 400 (4W), even at full power. Comparing the flow rates on all of them to the manufacturer's specs, I think watts is the best way to compare capacity. Whisper 10 1.5W, Whisper 150 3.5W, Fusion 700 6W, Whisper 300 7.5W. If quiet is important, buy 2 or 3 times what you need and a brand with adjustable…

  • Sleek design

Powerful and quiet LOTS of sucking from this bad boy!

Unbeatable air pump for the money. It is very powerful and goes deeper than some of the "cheaper" pumps on the market. I have 5 older smaller pumps that have been discontinued since purchasing this beast. There are two places to connect the hose. I then separated each one and it ran four air "devices" in my 125 gallon tank with goldfish only. This is actually the second one I've bought. The first lasted about two years, when one of the parties decided to vent less. By calling Tetra I was able…

Quiet of course - but not designed for multiple lights

So maybe it's my fault but this pump did NOT live up to my expectations. I made the mistake of thinking that it will be extremely powerful at shallower depths since it can pump so deep below the surface. I had an ActiveAqua 4-port pump that I use to power 5 small foam filters and 2 medium sized diffusers. Worked great but was a bit noisy. After reading various reviews of "powerful" and "quiet" air pumps, I settled on this one. It's twice the price of what I used, but I expected it to be more…

Pros
  • Lots of positive vibes
Cons
  • Can't remember

Not very long (Bought THREE, each died within 12 months or less)

UPDATE 10/15/19: I just had a THIRD unit of this pump that failed. This third pump was placed outside of the aquarium lid with no moisture, good airflow, and on a shock-absorbing surface to minimize vibration. That tells me it's not bad luck, the pump is poorly designed. I highly recommend not using this pump unless you plan on replacing yours about once a year or so. I have a pump in my 35 gallon tank that has been working fine for 6 years and I think I would move it to my 100 gallon tank but…
