This is an exact copy of the original with one exception. The thermometer probe was too long on my stovetop. The sensor touched the catalytic converter. I had to cut off about 3/8 inch so the thermometer cleared the catalytic converter 1/4 inch when inserting. This did not damage the probe or the calibration in any way as the probe is copper plated. The probe works great.

    Perfect for Dutchwest 2462

We used this to monitor the internal temperature of the catalytic converter so we know when to turn it on and it works great. Some reviewers say they had to trim it to fit their ovens. I don't - the length is perfect for piercing our Dutchwest2462 refractory stove assembly so that it rests slightly higher than the cat itself. In combination with the new refractory and the cauldron, our stove burns perfectly. Slightly less wood consumption, more stable heat and no smoke!

The length of the probe was too long, it was easy to shorten it.

I had to cut off about 1 inch of the probe to fit. Need the next smaller size. For Consolidated Dutchwest before 1990 Sequoia. never mind I used a Dremel tool with a cutting wheel to cut off the excess length. Works perfectly. The recommended sensor distance above the converter is 1/4 inch. I installed a 1/4" gasket over the catalytic converter, replaced the top plate and put in the sensor. No matter how much was sticking out over the top plate, that much I had to remove. Ideal!

    Pros
    • Everything is fine!

    • Expensive

    Paint peels off instantly

When we first used this thermometer the paint was chipping and peeling! This made the thermometer reading almost unreadable! We've left enough traces to judge the temperature of our converter. We bought it in mid-September (it's March now) so at least it's still working (we've actually had other brands of MELT) but it's definitely hard to read. There are incised lines to show the temperature markings, but the numbers are drawn in color. We can still see the highest and lowest temperatures on…

    Pros
    • Great design
    Cons
    • Crumpled packaging
