I think the temperature was a little higher than normal. I've had several thermometers from different companies and they all read colder than this one. I edited it a bit with pliers and now it looks better. I'll still check the actual temperature of the oven with one of those digital laser temp sensors, but I haven't gotten around to it yet (and it's summer now). I love that his ranges are made specifically for the Sopastone oven, which needs to run at a lower temperature than a cast iron oven.

Works well just a bit expensive

I'm not giving 4 stars out of 5 for the functionality or performance but for the price and thought I'd give it a try to see if it worked better. It REALLY registers temperature changes noticeably faster (because I think it doesn't have a magnet [heatsink] on the back. I haven't decided yet if I really care about that. My stove is in a dark place and I like the dial Der Style of this thermometer is better than my other thermometers (small white display and contrast areas are very easy to read.)…

We rely on it in the kitchen and dining room

This is an amazing product at a reasonable price. We monitor the temperature of our wood stove because we are new to wood burning. We also have a laser device that measures the temperature of the oven, so we can be doubly sure we're really hot, as firefighters and others have recommended to prevent creosote build-up. If you're new to soapstone, it's really worth it! We keep it for about 400 days. Note and also use Rutland Creosote Remover (1 scoop twice a week). As long as it works! Plus, it's…

Large Soapstone Oven Thermometer

PERFORMANCE: Purchased, placed directly over the center tile of my Hearthstone homestead, and it reads very accurately. I've tried uploading a photo (Amazon won't let me) to compare my wireless thermometer to this one and it's always between 10 and 20 degrees (which at 500 degrees says a lot!). 4%. In fact, the surface of the stone varies greatly, so that a small deviation can be explained precisely by this. There's also no noticeable lag in temperature readings. AESTHETICS: Oh my gosh, I don't
