I use it in a seam plane I made and works well, at least the chisel works well. The plane still needs some tweaking, but that's another story. It sharpened well, polished well, the back needed very little leveling and it held the blade well, but I didn't overdo it as it's just a planer blade.
This was the second bit I've bought (the first was a 3/4" beveled Stanely bit from a big store) with intentions of using it for chopped to use slots. worked great from the start, felt very solid and made good cuts although I'll probably need to sharpen it soon. upon receipt of larger versions.
I'm disappointed. About ten years ago I had a set of these Marples chisels that looked exactly like the one shown here (smooth long blue handle). They were very well weighted and balanced. I needed a replacement 1/4” bit for my Irwin Marples bit set. This is for a new style of molded plastic handle that comes in a beautiful wooden box for a complete set. I know some people don't approve of the new style as they are made in China not England but I like them. The steel is very hard and keeps the blade sharp for a long time. I don't know what hardness they are on the scale but it should be there because these chisels are definitely not mild steel. The molded blue handle fits my hand
