Terrible valve head but otherwise good design

The overall construction of this pump is good except for the valve head which is very difficult to remove without significant loss of air pressure requiring the tire to be inflated by the amount you think you need , is lost when the hose is retracted. This is probably not a problem with large tires like car tires, but it is a problem with high pressure bike tires that are initially low in air. The best I can do is pull the hose hard and fast once the latch is released.

  • BASE Hardened Steel

Has stopped working after a long period of non-use

This pump seems well built but I don't use it. I would recommend this pump to any bike owner who is serious about inflating tires accurately. Update November 2017: After years of non-use I find this pump more than useless! I'm not a gifted mechanic, but I'm not a mechanical idiot either. Using a bike tire pump shouldn't be that difficult. Remove the bag from the bicycle tire valve, insert or screw the pump connector into the tire valve, inflate until the correct pressure is reached, quicklyโ€ฆ

Pros
  • ADDITIONAL FEATURES - Includes ball and balloon adapter for inflating exercise equipment, hose holder, handle lock
Cons
  • Unfashionable

You can't go wrong with Topeak

. I bought this pump 11 years ago and used it on several bikes every week. The gauge was accurate and the pump was quick to pressurize my tires even at over 100psi. A few months ago the pump was leaking somewhere at the gauge/hose junction. I called ToPeak to ask if I could purchase replacement parts as the warranty expired years ago. A friendly Topeak repairman told me he would send me a new gauge assembly along with a new pipe gasket - free! It arrived a few days later and within 10 minutesโ€ฆ

Built to last, it's easy to inflate.

Excellent pump. Main aspects: 1) The steel base is wide and stable. 2) The pressure gauge is located on top of the shaft. Easy to read how far the pump sensors go. 3) Effortless pumping. I attached it to my minivan's tires and with a good inflation I was able to build up the pressure. No more convenient than an air compressor, but definitely doable in 5-10 minutes of pumping if you need to. 4) The pressure gauge is accurate and includes a bleed valve so you can deflate without removing the hose

No problem, good for cycling

I bought one of these over 5 years ago and use it 2 or 3 times a week on average. At some point the hose burst. I contacted their support team via email and they sent me a new hose and head. Recently, the main o-ring on the piston has failed to seal properly. Adding lube helped for a while but apparently the rubber got too hard. I emailed their support team and they said to call parts ordering to purchase one. At this point I decided to order a new pump - it's good to have a spare pump in theโ€ฆ
