Contrary to the experiences of others here, the welding itself on the pair I received was acceptable. What was unacceptable was that one of the two posts was crooked because the top of the base (the part that contains the ratchet) was welded on. at an angle. Great value for money! The steel base is a good measure: thick and strong, but not too heavy. The color settles evenly and shines. The locking mechanism is a bit "clunky" and could have been a bit "more positive" in my opinion.
