Description of 🍺 Tovolo Inch Large King Craft Ice Mold Freezer Tray: 2" Cubes for Whiskey, Bourbon, Spirits & Liquor Drinks - BPA-Free Silicone Set of 1 (Stratus Blue)

CREATE IMPRESSIVE ICE: Trays create extra-large 2-inch cubes. The cubes’ impressive size help ice melt slowly. The durable food-grade silicone allows easy removal of one or two cubes at a time, so you can enjoy your drinks with as much ice as you want. PERFECT BARWARE: Slow-melting ice prevents dilution, which is perfect for whiskey, bourbon, Scotch, Old Fashioned, and other liquor-heavy cocktails. Large cubes also create a memorable drink experience for guests. Freeze herbs, citrus slices, or berries in the ice for additional flavor infusion. Add to bar drinks, pitchers, punch, or other beverages for long-term chilling power. MULTIPLE KITCHEN USES: Freeze juice, coffee, sauce, soup, baby food, or other leftovers to create single-serve portions. Great to use for iced coffee, smoothies, and blended cocktails. EASY TO CLEAN: Trays are dishwasher safe. Rinse occasionally with water and vinegar for best results. DIMENSIONS: 6.25" L X 4.5" W x 2" H and creates 6 extra-large 2" square cubes. BPA-free and food-safe for safe freezing.

I wish I had had

I wish I had had this set years ago. Each compartment holds about half a cup, or 3 cents per tray. I bought these to freeze homemade bone broth, but I've also used them to freeze leftover tomato paste (you know, the recipe only calls for 2 tablespoons and they don't come in 2 tablespoon sizes). My friend uses them for peach sauce. I have to let them sit on the counter for about 15 minutes before taking out the frozen cubes, but I love them.

Almost any liquid freezes

I started storing my urine many years ago, you know, for joy. Well, after a while the house started to smell like an old WWII submarine after a long service in the Atlantic. I knew I needed a new approach. Yes, you guessed it. I freeze urine in handy cubes. A tray lasts me almost two days, unless I press the sauce too hard. Luckily I have an Arby store nearby where the night manager will allow me to store excess stuff in the freezer for a modest monthly fee.

Makes big cloudy cubes. Strange sediment after a while.

Works mostly as advertised but after a while in the freezer a white film/substance forms on the molds which affects the drink you pour them into (taste, same white material in the glass after a few sips ). There is no definite way to delete this. The only solution that worked for me was to rinse out the ice before putting the cocktails in. I always keep about 5 of these in the freezer, but I've started making my own large, clear cubes using the Coleman chilling method (YouTube, don't be…

Causes a chemical odor and white coating that only gets worse over time

You get what you pay for. I've tried two different versions of this product and both give this white residue which I first removed from the shell and dunked the cubes in water to get rid of the bad taste. However, over time it became unbearable, which can only lead me to believe that this is not a food product that will break down over time and add more chemicals to my ice cubes. Instead, look for a genuine USA made dining tray (e.g. from W&P Peak).

Mileage may vary due to odor buildup EDIT: How to remove odor

Pros: Durable, ice cubes peel off easily. So-so: White sediment after some use: These are minerals from the water. I think they tend to settle between the ice and the shell surface. A simple ice wash solves this problem. The Bad: Silicone absorbs ALL the odors from the freezer and turns them into ice cubes. Washing ice doesn't work with smell. After a year of use, the ice smelled too much, so I stopped using it. I have tried many methods to get rid of the smell but so far without success. (less

My favorite ice cube trays

In 2013 I bought four of these ice cube trays. They are amazing. I use water from my Brita jug to fill them up and have never had a taste issue unless the Brita filter is replaceable. The cubes take a long time to melt, so your drink stays cold longer. The only downside is that they also take a long time to freeze, around four hours. So line up lots of trays and plan accordingly. I usually fill the tray right after using the last cube and put it back in the freezer. Occasionally cubes get stuck

FROZEN CUBE IS EASY TO REMOVE AND SLOWLY!

I've read reports of how difficult it is to remove ice cubes and a kind of white film that forms when using ice cubes from this tray in drinks - but I got it anyway ordered. AND I LOVE IT! I took a reviewer's advice to only fill the trays 3/4 full so the cubes don't stick together at the top as they freeze and expand. And it worked! The cubes slide out very easily - no knocking or resistance - they slide right out. We just got through a two week heat wave here in LA so I used the tray to freeze

Pros
  • understandable even for the old

  • reliability

*** Updated with usage tips *** Do you like your drinks COLD?

I bought these trays by accident and I really like them! What surprised me and what nobody talks about is that they cool much better than a bunch of standard little cubes. I drink iced coffee (cold brew) all day and it's great with these cubes. One cube cools a 16 ounce cup full of coffee with cream. Others have problems with white matter in the water. I only use filtered water (PUR, that's a two-stage filter) for coffee and ice. I haven't seen any problem and I haven't noticed any bad taste or
