Works great, need to change default settings

It's hard to find a local DSL modem these days, but it's about the only reliable service my sister can use in backcountry America. Bought it for her to replace the one she lost during a thunderstorm. Between phone support from TP-Link and her DSL company, it took her about 6 hours to set it up, but it's done and everything is working fine. She said customer service is helpful, but the international accent is sometimes difficult to understand. The default modem settings weren't what she needed…

Working with no internet and useless customer service.

I set it up but couldn't get it to work. So I called my service provider and after playing around with it for 20 minutes he told me to call the manufacturer. Don't you know they have a hotline? The first few times I called there I got a busy signal. That only happens when I call my grandparents, who still have a landline that doesn't work. What store this side of the 1980s allows its customers to hear a busy tone? Well I finally got through and this is the really amazing part. I was detained…

Good modem but lacking in technology

I bought this modem to replace my 4 year old Netgear which was giving me some problems. Having sold TP-Link products at the store where I work, I was familiar with the brand and felt comfortable enough to buy it (especially after discovering that it actually works with Windstream DSL). Setup was *mostly* painless, but there were a few hiccups and a less-technical customer might run into issues they couldn't handle. And most ISPs don't offer support for third-party modems. However, I was able to

For WindStream and TP-LINK users TD-8816 modem electronics

For WindStream users, there are FAQs about third-party modem support available for WindStream users. Below is a copy/paste of the article. I just had to enter 0/35 VPI/VCI instead of the default 8/35 VPI/VCI along with my user/password to use this modem. Don't forget to update /etc/resolv.conf on your Linux machine to 192.168.1.1 (instead of 192.168.254.254 DNS WindStream), otherwise you'll only be able to access websites without DNS resolution. (ie just by entering an IP address instead of…

Incomplete guidance information.

Setting it up was a real challenge. The user guide states that you should contact your ISP for information on VPI/VCI and connection types before following the CD setup wizard. The only problem is that this is only half of the information needed to properly set up the modem following the instructions on the CD. After several attempts to set up the modem, selecting different setup questions, the only way I was able to resolve the issue was to contact Centurylink Technical Support for setup…
