Supports the battery in my X3

I screwed it onto the roof of my Maverick X3 for continuous battery charging. I paired it with an Instapark INCC1205 12V/5A waterproof PWM solar charge controller and installed everything on my X3. Battery lasts well. The solar panel was flexible enough to mount flat in a bend or on a roof. I get a lot of comments and questions when I'm in the dunes.

Seems to work, great support.

Customer service is excellent when you have a problem and the product seems to be working. I connected it to the battery in the car which has a switch but it seems the battery is being held at 12.8 volts with no change since I ordered it two months ago. I'm not sure how well this will work if there's a large parasitic discharge and whatnot, but it's saved the battery from falling so far, so I'll call it a win.

Don't be fooled by the power indicator

As I work in electronics I decided to measure the voltage before trusting it to charge a car battery. In bright sunlight, the green "Normal Operation" indicator on the control panel would illuminate, indicating that the unit is on. I measured 0/0.00 voltage with each of the included wires. In other words, this panel is of absolutely no use when it comes to battery charging. Use a voltmeter or test lamp to test your panel as you may have a false sense of security.

Good record, bad car.

The panel did not charge my car (Acura MDX). As with most people, the cigarette lighter turns off when the car is turned off. I found a permanently on fuse and connected it to a fuse tap. I have noticed that my battery voltage is constantly dropping. Using barrel shaped 5.5x2.1 connectors I made an adapter to measure current. In decent sunlight it was only 10mA. I used the battery clips that came with the panel and connected them directly to my battery. 600mA or about 7W. Apparently my car has…

This is the correct

This panel charges even through a dusty window in the shade of a tree. This panel is set to output approximately 14 volts, which is a suitable charge voltage for a standard lead-acid car battery. Almost all other chargers I've looked at are unregulated and produce higher voltages in bright light. While this will not damage the car battery while charging, it does mean that these panels can overcharge and damage the battery if left connected for long periods of time. This one won't. The panel is…

Great panel in chargers and solar charging kits

This thing works great for an old pickup that I drive about 2 times a month. I connected it to the battery with the clamps that came with it and left the solar panel under the windshield washer it sits there in a downpour, a strong wind. If it wasn't plugged in the battery would have died in 2 weeks and I would have had to run it from an external source. There is no more of it. The battery might be dead completely, but after a few days of decent sun the battery works again and I can just use it

Pros
  • Great product
Cons
  • Definitely bad product

The red LED on the cigarette lighter of the solar battery charger has failed

I used this charger for 3 days, unplugged it because the temperature dropped below zero and brought the unit to my house. Today I got my charger and took it to my truck. I fixed the solar panel on the window, the red light on the cigarette lighter came on, then I decided to put the panel on the window. I unplugged the cigarette lighter and moved the panel, plugged the cigarette lighter adapter back in and the LED doesn't light up. I took the device to my car and plugged in the cigarette lighter

A handy way to keep the battery fully charged

I bought this to keep my old fj40 charged while it's sitting. Sometimes I ride for weeks between rides and always find my battery dead, especially in the winter. Ever since I've been using this solar panel for continuous charging, I've had a fully charged battery every time. I lean the panel against the window, where it gets a good amount of sunlight, and plug it into the cigarette lighter. Even through a tinted window, the panel generates enough power to keep my battery charged. The panel…

A bit skeptical, but so far so good.

Due to the pandemic, I don't drive as often anymore. The battery was empty after 2 days of inactivity. I've had it connected for 3 days now. and every time i tried to start the car everything was fine BUT i haven't left it more than 1 day since i had it. is updated when it sits idle. The board is rigid and looks like a printed circuit board. I'm not sure if it's waterproof, but I won't test it. An LED on the back indicates if there is enough sunlight to activate charging. The cable is not as…
